Capaldi Racing traveled to scenic Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to help celebrate the track's 50th anniversary by running in rounds 7 and 8 of the 2011 World Challenge season. Arriving at the track sitting second in the in the GTS championship points, team driver Eric Foss was coming off second and third place finishes at rounds 5 and 6 at Mosport International Raceway -- and was looking for two more podium finishes at Mid-Ohio. Eric spent the practice sessions getting back into the groove in the #73 Traxxas/St. Jude /SPX Ford Mustang FR500S after the series' two month mid-season break. Eric and the team finalized the car's setup for qualifying and Eric set the fifth fastest time for the start of the weekend's first race.
During the race, Eric moved up to second behind fellow Mustang driver Paul Brown. Pole sitter Peter Cunningham, who dropped to third, was closing on Eric but had to retire from the race when a wheel came off his Acura. Eric then set his sights on Brown, but ran out of time before he could take over the lead and settled for second place--his third second-place finish of the season.
For the weekend's second race, Eric qualified second and started on the first row next to pole sitter Alec Udell. Eric moved into the lead briefly then dropped to third where he spent most of the race until Ben Crosland got by, bumping Eric to fourth. "It was great to be back on track with the World Challenge," said Eric. "It took us a while to find the right setup, but the Capaldi team worked like crazy to get it right. The car was flawless all weekend, I was able to push it really hard, and it took it with no problems. We would have loved two more podiums, but one podium (2nd place) and a 4th place finish aren't bad at all. I'm looking forward to our next race at Infineon."
With four races to go, Eric Foss and the #73 Traxxas/St. Jude /SPX Ford Mustang FR500S are in second place overall. Capaldi Racing will be back on track with the World Challenge August 26 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma California for rounds 9 and 10.
