Jeg Coughlin Jr.
As one of the top 10 drag racers of all time, five-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. knows the value of a strong crew of dedicated professionals all working together towards one common goal. That's why the over 70-time national event winner always is prepared to make the moves it takes to put his JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Avenger in the best possible position to win.
The exacting methods paid dividends in 2012 when Coughlin's upstart race team successfully qualified for the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. For 2013, the opportunity to join forces with fellow Mopar flagship driver and 2012 Pro Stock champion Allen Johnson and his J&J Racing group was too good to pass up.
Now, with the unwavering support of JEGS Mail Order and Mopar, Coughlin is taking aim at another Pro Stock championship to go with the ones he earned in 2000, 2002, 2007, 2008, and 2013.
There's every reason to bet on the affable Ohio native. He's been winning races at all levels of straight-line racing since he started in 1990 and even scored the Super Gas world title in 1992.
He's the only driver to win national events in four different eliminators in the same year, racking up victories in Super Stock, Super Gas, Comp and Pro Stock in 1997. He also was the first racer in NHRA's 63-year history to win in six different categories -- Pro Stock, Competition Eliminator, Top Dragster, Super Gas, Super Stock and Super Comp.
As one of the premiere flagship racers representing the high performance parts business his father started in 1960, JEGS Mail Order, Coughlin's pedigree for success will certainly shine through as his personal racing story continues to unfold.
In 2012, Jeg returned to the quarter-mile for full-time competition after a year-long hiatus. He did so in convincing fashion by wrapping up the season with a ninth place finish in the championship.
The 2013 season was a more fitting return for the multi-time champion. Jeg posted four runner-up finishes at the first round of Pomona, Gainesville, Sonoma, and Seattle. These finishes were accompanied by four trips to the winner’s circle with victories in Topeka, Chicago, the second round at Charlotte, and a win in Reading. He also set a career best elapsed time and speed in the same year. Jeg took home his fifth NHRA Pro Stock world championship title.
Proving to be more about learning, the 2014 season wasn’t without its share of elimination rounds. Jeg did take his JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Avenger to the winner’s circle in Atlanta, GA. Watch for more to come in the 2015 season.
