    Question Shift?

How do you know when your 4-tec shifts? When I had the car brand new you could hear it studder a little bit, and it'd take a while for it to top out. NOW It dosen't studder, and dosen't take long to top out, which makes me belive it's not shifting, I've been tooling around with the shift point and I was curious if there was any way to be sure the car is shifting other than the time it takes to top out or the studdering?

If the car isnt shifting then it should go around 35. Also if you reach top speed. The engine should be revving like crazy. After a while you dont really hear it shift but it is.

When it shifts, you shouldn't see a drop in the cars velocity. It should be a smooth, constant increase.
I love the smell of nitro fumes in the morning!

well, I sit my car to shift on high RPM,,I like the first gear to hit almost high speed before shiftting...not too much though or it will break the gears,,which bring a Qu. in my mind..do you guys know any spur gears that are not plastic?

Exactly! And that why I'm having soo much trouble telling the diffrence from a shift vs no shift.

For some reason my engine dosen't rev like crazy, it never has, even when I was 99% sure it wasn't shifting, hrmm....

nfs50 - Thats pretty much what I mean, the Engine pauses for an instant, and the rmp goes down

the e-maxx has a switch on the radio that lets you control when it shifts. I wonder why traxxas didn't make the 4tec that way.

Traxxas didnt makes a manual tranny because its a touring car and it needs to be light. A manual tranny would require a third channel, and a more complex tranny.

You will know it when your tranny shifts. Like nfs50 said, you will hear a click and the RPMs will drop noticably, but not too much. The click you hear is the little stem inside the tranny that the spring holds down. When the centrifugal force is high enough (spinning fast enough), that stem will stick out and catch on part the second gear is attached to. Your supposed to hear the click, theres nothing wrong with your tranny if you do hear it.
