Dare I try a 3s lipo with a XL5? or is this a sure path to disaster? Thanks; Don

Those ESCs are not set up for 3S. The VXLs can barely handle it.

If you're a pyromaniac then go for it... It'll be a good spark and smoke a bit.

OK; I get it! Kind of what I thought but I thought I would ask.

Mine started to smoke on 2s. If you do try it, put some super tall mod1 gearing to see if you can get just one speed run. I'd like to see that. That gives you the excuse to upgrade to brushless.

More than likely, the over-voltage protection will kick in and simply not let you go anywhere. However, the XL-5 ESC is a good unit and I would not sell it short.
Now, since this really has nothing to do with Traxxas LiPos, this thread will be closed.
