Is there any risk of fire when charging the NIMHs overnight?

Hi all I have the two stock power cell NIMHs that came with my summit and are they ok to charge over night or is it too risky?

    Thanks,
    Spence

I charged nimh's over night on carpet for weeks and I even let it sit on the charger for much longer than it should be. The batteries shouldn't start a fire but they will get warm. For safe keeping, put them in something that is less likely to catch fire like a metal can for charging. Its a precautionary measure. If the batteries aren't damaged or leaky then they shouldn't start a fire. But safety first.

Plug them in outside, off the ground and covered.
