Check out this thread with regard to posting pictures.

I had my Bullet out recently for a spin. I've been thinking that it's been a while since my Sledge Hammer has been driven, so that might get taken out for a drive here soon.

I am building an SRT and I just recently purchased a TCP. I'm still in the process of figuring out what motor/esc I want to run in them. But when I get that figured out.....ITS ON!!!

Congrats on the resurrection! Super excited to see what you have!

    Dude,

I have been tweakin' the trx1 and trx3 that I found in the garage over the winter. Ran the trx1on some indoor carpet with a 27T brushed with NiCds and an LRP Indy 600. I was just like, why the heck not? Just rebuilt the 1 trans with all Thorp gears that I found at the old LHS (R/C Plus [shout out]). Bought a 2.4 radio system and a 17T brushed. Gonna order up some loose NiMh cells and build some stick packs next. Found some dogbones......I LOVE IT! Been hoarding parts. It's insane. Really need to find a vintage racing scene. I wake up thinking about the Vintage Offroad Nationals.

    Anyway.....

I've been racing the TRX-3 for a few months now in both mod/open buggy and vintage. Running it with a Spektrum DX3C Radio, Spektrum S6040 Servo, Viper VTX10R Speedo and either a Viper VST7.5/4400 kv or a Tekin Redline 17.5 for Vintage.

Best finish so far was 3rd of 12 modern buggies in mod open class. B4's and RB5's and TwentyTwos. Has a 1st and 2nd in vintage also in a field of 7. Vintage class has been a TRX1, my TRX3, 4 RC10's and a JRX2

Oh I also fit a shortened Bandit VXL body on it that looks pretty cool.

The SRT body is a Thunder Tiger Evader ST.

    Here we go.

    TRX 3

SRT so far - no motor, speedo or wing yet

TRX-3, Ultima RB Type R, SRT, Blitz ESE Pro

Oh and btw the SRT is this SRT that I posted in the picture thread sticky 6 years ago. Picture is 9 years old.

    Fujative,

Nice stuff man! Any details on the VXL body? You said "shortened". How, where, and how does it fit the chassis angles? I always feel better when some older Traxxas rigs have a good home and get to run free. Keep it up.

I only had to cut the front 1"-1 1/2" off the Bandit body. And then the sides to make room for the turnbuckles. Also about 1/4" angled down front to rear. It drooped slightly below the chassis in the front. You cant tell now.

The body on the ultima is a Jconcepts Illuzion Bandit VXL body. I think it could fit the trx-3 also though I haven't tried.

The Evader Truck body fits the SRT like a glove.

I will need to dremel a rounded recess on the rear wheel wells to make room for the camber link when the suspension compresses, but the original SRT body had that as well.

Trx-3 and Trx-1 in action back in March. We went 1-2 this vintage race. Trx-3 won both qualifiers, Trx-1 won the main. I beat him the next week though :-/

That SRT looks great! I love those RPM rims.

How do both of them feel on the track? Predictable? Oversteer?
And there he goes with the carbon...

Haven't driven the SRT yet. Still needs new Tranny parts.

TRX-3 has been an ongoing tinker sesh. Initially it had a bad on-power push. Worked awhile to correct that now I got a bouncy rear end. Still working on it though. But it did get 3rd in a field of 12 modern cars one night, but still doesnt feel right.

Currently running my SRT with a Tekin RX8 Gen 2 and Pro 2 5100kv 4pole with SMC 2s 50c lipos. Still restoring a TCP I bought off Ebay and have a NIB TCP sitting on my shelf.

Yup that's correct. It was suppose to be for my Blitz ESE to race in open mod but the track closed down and never got to run the Blitz. So I figured I'll just use it in the SRT.

Lower your rear roll center. It gets rid of some bounciness. Also check for under-dampening.

Bouncy rear end...have you tried a softer spring? Sounds like the spring is too stiff and on a light weigh oil.

Yeah tried springs up and down. Cant go too soft because of the on-power push

Mount them lower. If it is still too bouncy try a stiffer shock oil.

They are in a lower mid hole. Second in I think.

Stiffer shock oil should compound the bounce problem. It's not the chassis bouncing it's the entire rear end including wheels. Softer oil should help that but then I'm back to squatting on acceleration.

It's been a long day and there's a good chance my brain has gone into shut down. How does roll center have an affect on the suspension being "bouncy"?

I wonder if I have a bent shock shaft or hinge pin or something preventing it from rebounding as fast as it should.

Its currently 25wt in the rear end with white traxxas springs.

That's what i was wondering. I know spring stiffness and oil weight affects it. Plus shock angle and I believe too much anti squat can also cause this issue too.

I did go back up from 1.5 to 3 anti squat. Bounce was noticably worse. But I needed the 3 for the on power steering.

Wouldnt 35 wt slow down the suspensions movement thus making the rear end more bouncy? (Again the wheels are already losing contact with surface with each bounce.

WAs just looking at that. I have another NIB 2519x but don't want to risk melting it. This Tekin is powerful. BTW...This happened in about 3 secs when i hit the throttle in my room on the carpet. At first is souned like the slipper but then i noticed the diff wasn't engaging. Was it way too tight or too loose?

Were'nt you supposed to pair the Delrin Top and Diff Gear with a Metal Idler Gear? I seem to recall that.

I have the entire transmission upgraded to Delrin top gear, Aluminum Idler with a lightweight titanium idler shaft(aftermarket) and the very rare Delrin Diff gear. These were optional SRT parts. The gear itself didn't melt...the holes when you put the diff balls in melted. The holes are still there but jsut melted and larger. I was able to enlarge the holes and clean them up. I rebuilt the diff and it feels smooth. Wondering if it still be ok to run if I set the diff right.

This is what the transmission looks like before the power of the Tekin!.

Suck. I had those gears at one point in the srt. Not sure why I went back to stock.

I'm doing some annual recurrent training at work this week. Soon as I know I have a job for another year (Friday night tentatively) I'm going to order the Super Diff, The A&L Slipper, some new C-CVD's....and maybe the SRT body if available soon. Probably transfer my Viper VTX10R and VST7.5 from the TRX3 to try it all out.
