    1/16 Mini Emaxx

A close friend has presented me with a challenge- build a mini Emaxx true to the 1/16 scale of the traxxas lineup utilizing as many stock traxxas parts from any vehicle as possible. But it must mimic the 1/10 scale emaxx as close as possible. I've seen a lot of posts and conversations on the possibility of traxxas making a mini emaxx. I've also seen a lot of people start to attempt a build of one. But I have not yet seen a completed one. I have posted on another thread in the Emaxx section but figured I would start a thread to go through my attempt to create a mini Emaxx that retains the overall design of the 1/10 scale. Hopefully I will be able to end this thread with a completed build. I will post pictures as I go. I will start with what I have built so far and work from there. I look forward to everyone's input as this project progresses.

Here are some pics of what I have designed and built so far. At this stage I am not using very many traxxas stock parts.

Well not so great news. This material will not accept dye. Had a test piece at a simmer in black dye for over 30 minutes and almost no change. Looks like this build is going to be all white.

Pretty cool! Check out a thread by Danielhr77 called Project : Honey, I shrunk the E-Maxx. He has done a lot of crazy builds over the years; a mega Maxx, a 4WS Maxx, and a 10x10 E-Maxx. Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure he could give some good advice. Surprised he hasn't chimed in on this build yet. Looks pretty cool so far!!

I was looking at that build, it looked like a really nice build but it looked like he had stopped working on it and it hasnt been completed. Dissapointing becaused it looked like it was going to be nice. May me wish I could get a cnc machine.

After 3 hours at a simmer and with the addition on distilled vinager this is as dark as I could get the scrap test piece.
Currently testing the color orange which isnt working so great right now.

Wow, sweet project! What shocks are you going to use? I'd recommend the ones from the new Teton.

The orange dye did not work. Looks like the emaxx parts will all be dyed black. So a blacked out mini Emaxx it will be.

Thank you, yes I did check those shocks out. Their length is good at 60mm but I wanted somthing a little more heavy duty and I found these from traxxas.
    TRA7665
    Features:
GTR hard-anodizedPTFE-coated aluminum with TiN shaftsFully AssembledSprings included

Unfortunatley they are not available yet. So I have ordered GPM gun metal grey aluminum shocks for the time being. And I will look more into the traxxas the ones when they become available.

I used Delrin and I cut everything by hand and filed it all down to size. Makes me wish I could afford a CNC machine.

Pretty impressive. How long it took you to make those parts?

I just cannot wait to see those iconic 8 shocks on that thing.

Proline trenchers. They seem to be a good size, larger then the talon tires but a bit smaller then the summit tires. In the middle like the 1/10 emaxx tires.

The stock receiver box vs.the new smaller receiver box. It's these little things that seem to take the most time.

Really looking great! Not many projects like it on this forum. Mainly all of us just slapping aftermarket parts together and calling it a "build." This is truly an epic build! Keep it up. You will have something really unique when it's all done!

My little brother had a mini LST once. It was very clear that it was a miniaturized e-maxx...and a big disappointment! This one looks like it will deliver!

Quick update. About 90% of the pieces are cut, the front upper and lower A-arms just need to be filed down to size and the entire front assembly needs to be test fit. I will post pics when that's done. I am still waiting on the shocks to be delivered, they are about a week behind schedule. I am anticipating some slight adjustments to the lower a-arms. All other parts are here. I will keep posting pics as I progress through the build. Hopefully I will have the completed build by the end of March.
