    Improvise. :P

This question is too open-ended to offer a guaranteed-effective answer.

I put a dewalt motor in that made me money, but this was more of a gamble than anything else, if it went wrong i would of been 20 or 30 out of pocket. If i didn't have the tools also then i would be down.

But paint would cost money. Do you already have some?

I think we need to identify the problem before we come up with a solution...

What about the looks of the truck do you not like?

You meantioned painting the tires.... ummm.... no, next?

I took a black marker to the traxxas on the bottom of the chassis and white to the traxxas on the receiver box and outlining the letters on the tires.

Underside painted with permanent marker. Did it multiple times so it filled in nicely

While paint pen on the tires. Held IP nicely after a few runs but nothing a quick touch up here and there can't handle.

Cost about $5 but I had these items laying around and got bored one day lol.

Dye any of your grey plastic parts black, i don't have much plastic left but things like the center transmission cover look a lot better in black.
I think i ran over the neighbor....
