    MERV broken antenna

Today i let my friend use my MERV. He rolled it over on his first try. No damage except that the antenna straw broke. We superglued it then went right back to driving. It broke again so he tried to pull the straw off. Bad idea. The straw was glued to the wire, and the wire snapped right off. What replacements do I need?

    It may be fixable.
The antenna is a coaxial wire... and only the last little bit (3cm) is used to receive signal. If you are careful and remove the black covering and the wire net of the wire you might be able to fix it.

Or... just buy a new receiver.
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

Right... that is because of the antenna damage.

Do you need a new Rx box too?

Yeah that's all you need really is that short piece of exposed wire. Where did the wire break off though?

do you have a soldering iron? If so you can look at soldering a new one on that's what I did and you can just have an extra receiver

I don't have a scolding iron. Does anyone know how to or at least a video of installing a new receiver?

I haven't seen one... it is super easy.

    Remove old receiver
Unplug item from old, plug into new
Bind according to the instructions in your manual
Stick everything into the Rx box

My son's mini slash antenna is broke also...we lost the little end piece you're all talking about in the snow...so I had to order the receiver. Why is the darn think so long??? My summit has an antenna that doesn't even stick out when i use the E-Revo body...

Any way to shorten it? the cut and solder approach? or can I just stuff/pull/tuck most of it back in the receiver box? Want to keep the range...

I bought this receiver like this

cause I did my other receiver by peeling off the black skin then behind the black skin is a braided wire loom do the same by removing it but with extra careful cause behind it is the actual wire, just copy the length of the actual wire tip.

heres my other reciever next to the one I just peeled off.

From what I understand, Traxxas may have put weaker parts in the long antenna ones to save some money. The weaker parts means weaker signal which means the longer antenna is needed to get any distance on the range.

Some have, however, shortened the antenna TUBE and coiled the extra antenna length in the Rx box without any ill effects on range.

Does coiling it in the rx box work? I just installed it and the antenna is awfully long. I'm afraid if I roll over it will break...

coil it in, and try it. Jimmie above said some have done it and it seemed to work. That's what i'll do.

your choice man, but if you want it protected, leave it under the body. As i wrote above, my summit antenna tube is about 2 inches and does NOT stick out of the body, so why should it stick out of the slash?

Look at this picture of my summit (shell off), it's the little blue tube you see between the motor and the right rear tire. It came this way.

It even tucks under the low-profile BAJR body - see it?

Your radio is a lot different than the radio he is dealing with. It may not get any range with the antenna tucked under the body.

I wouldn't cut the tube until you range test it everywhere you run your RC.

I've decided to leave the tube about a centimeter over the body. I will test the range and if it's same as new, then I'll try to put it under the body

JConcepts, but please note this is installed on a 1/8 Summit. It will look similar on E-Revo and it's really marketed for Slash/Slash 4x4.

I' ve seen something similar on a 1/16 revo using the axial Hardline Body:

See other threads on traxxas online for it; i'll try post it

Don't let yourself be limited by wht the sites say "this body is for so-and-so", most bodies can be adapted...jut use common sense, a 1/8 scale body will not fit 1/16, except if you're looking at a sninny axial crawler body like this on maybe a MERV.

Like forget about a XO-1 body on a Summit...wait...My spider senses just started tingling...
