    Building a new XO1

A couple of questions. I plan to build an XO1 and running 8s. Now my first question should I purchase the Castle Creations 9501 Mamba XL2 34V ESC w/ 780kV Brushless Motor System Combo. Or purchase the XL2 ESC and use the Castle Creations 1717 1650Kv motor?

The stock motor will handle 8s as long as you monitor temps closely and only make one or two runs before letting it cool down. Are you going for top speed? If so, the 780kv won't get you there.

I would use the stock 1717 motor with the XL2 thats what im running and it works fine on 8s my top speed so far is 118mph and thats with the body coming off and with it catching alot of air.

Ill give the 1717 motor a shot then. I have a few motors to play around with, Im going to install a tekin rx8 gen 2 with 2000kv motor sensored . Also will try a 1515 2200kv motor with mamba monster. For high speed runs will use the 1717 and the xl2 on 8s.

Just watch your temps with the smaller motors.

This motor is very powerful and has a slightly higher kv rating than the stocker. It should also run cooler. I have one and the power is awesome.

A lot of people run up to 8s on the Leopard. I would suggest either a Mamba Monster on 6s or an XL2 up to 8s.

Yes, the XL2 will handle up to 8s. Even if you plan on running 6s or lower, the XL2 is a great choice. It also datalogs quite a few parameters such as voltage, rpm, temperature, etc.

I notice the leopard brushless motors are priced very cheap. How is the quality? Im considering buying a couple to try out and if I burn them up I wont care cause they are cheap. But my main concern is the price. Normally when something is priced cheap, its made cheap.

Is there a particular speed you're looking to achieve? The Mamba Monster/2200 combo will take that car up close to 100 by itself. If you're not looking for consistent 100+ speeds, then you already have some great combos for it.

I want consistent 105-110mph speed runs. The reason why is I use GPS, and everytime I go out the guys I run with always tell me that GPS is generally off by about 5-8mph. So if I run 110mph I dont have to hear any complaints.

    Smart thinking!

I'm curious. What battery connectors are people using for setups larger than the stock castle system? I would think the stock system would already be pushing those connectors towards their limits.

I haven't heard many complaints about the Leopards, especially the 56mm motors. I have a 5682 and it's a beast. I haven't put it through it's paces yet but plan to this summer.

I run a water jacket on mine with 8s and i can run short course Pavement tracks with mine that only has one straight away

The rest is all corners and take offs.

I think the hottest ive had mine with a waterjacket is around 150ish

I have leopards in one of my 1/8 and in my 1/5. Go with the leopard, esp if you intend to run the 5623. Will have more power and run cooler than either castle motor.
Traxxas connectors can handle the amps of a 8s xo1. If you want more, use ec5 - I prefer these anyway. Handle more amps, easier to solder and easier to pull apart. The castle greens look appealing but are expensive and would be more than needed.
The xl 2 is a great esc - but make sure to get the cap pack for it! These become more important the more amps you use.

no i have no complaints with it at all
if im running in a open area just messing around it will even stay in the 120s

But running the short course really adds up the heat quickly

When you say water jacket, do you mean you have water cooling or just have the jacket that usually comes free from ose on it?
