    Wider Stance??

    Hello all,

As I was scrolling through the picture thread I started thinking I want my p4de's stance to be a bit wider for better handling. What are the different ways I can achieve a wider stance? I know a little about different off set wheels but which ones are used? RPM revolver?? All help is appreciated.

a wheel that has a different offset, or wheel wideners, or the pro-trac proline kit..... the protract usually isn't as dramatic as the other 2, but it will make the vehicle handle better overall, as it is a specifically designed system for the vehicle

Where would I find wheel wideners? Anybody have experience with them?

I have found that wheel wideners put a lot of stress on your axles and axle carriers. The reason I say this is because I've noticed that while using the ( in%^&*$egy ) 14mm wideners I go through carrier bearings about twice as fast as when I run without the wideners.

    Hope this helps.

go with wheel offset instead of extended adapters. I don't even know if you can get a extended adapters that are 12mm at the end, most are 17mm and 14mm that I see.

My P4de have 12" across wheel to wheel on XO-1 adapters on a buggy wheels/slick tires

and here it is with RPM revolver 3.2" wheels on PL Mashers

12mm hex wheel wideners. Most used on crawler...

Like I said, I go through carrier bearings about twice as fast when I run the wideners. But it might just be me or my driving style. Your results may very.

I wouldn't want to put extra strain on the carriers or bearings; I'm running tekno rear carriers and don't want them to warp. So what off set should I use? What brand and model works well?

I think Protrac with 2wd front aluminum hexes is the way to go. I have that on mine and it handles great. I will have to look for different hubs when I upgrade to Tekno M6 shaft though. I will still want the additional width of the 2wd front hubs but the hole will need to be bigger for the M6 axles.

Dgudenau. Here is a link to wheel extensions. they come in different lengths. I used them along with the ProTrac kit.
I had them on for a year and no bearing problems at all. There is a guy(Pede-Off) in the 2x4 pede forum he has also ran a similar set for along time also with no bearing problems at all.Just trying to help.

That p4de looks awesome with those wheel extensions and seems like it would handle very well. Thanks for the advice and pictures! I think your rear body mount looks a little twisted....

Wow. I'm surprised the rpm revolvers gave you that width. Thanks for the pictures! I think I may go with the wheel extensions because I have a set of nearly new trenchers on desperados that I don't want to set aside.

I do not like the wheel extensions at all. Minute play in bearings will amplify with extensions.

Yep it is a little twisted. Thats they way it came right from the box. Once i put body in it straightened out.
It did handle great. A buddy(PEDE-OFF) of mine runs wheel extensions on his 2x4 pede for better part of two years and no problems at all.
I know its not a 4x4. I ran mine for a year no problems at all with wheel hubs front or rear.I ran mostly pavement and small jumps over the curb.

I never considered that. But wouldn't any play amplify with a wider vehicle stance despite which method is utilized? I'll just have to make sure I properly shim the axles and hubs.

Yes sir. But the final mounting place is much closer without extensions and it's less weight to be spinning out of balance. Just my thoughts. My cousin has/had extensions on his pede and constantly complained about bearings wearing out.

For the fourth time in as many months I had the an inner bearing grenade on me. So I've removed my wideners for the last time today. I replaced a the full set of carrier bearings front and rear. The LHS did not have the bearings for the bellcrank or I would have replaced those too, though only 1 of the four was on its way out. Instead I had to install the white plastic bushings from my Telluride spare parts bin until the bearings come in. IMO, no more wideners.

Alright so if I did decide to go with the revolvers what size tire does that run? 2.2s?

Yes. They are a 2.2 wheel. Less sidewall play and shorter tires.

I like to stay around 4-4.3 inches on my tires. The lower the better for the track I run. Takes sidewall wobble out.
