I like it. Good idea puttin them through the inside first. I always thought about putting a lot of little screws in the treads.

Thanks - Pretty easy and fast to make those.

Most time consuming is putting the 144 Screws in the tires Just turn on the TV and you're good to go.

Tomorrow is testing time on 4s - Yeaaaaaaah!!!!!!!

The are from Conrad Electronics (Europe).

I made the first run with those spike tires on 4s on snow today. Crazy traction. Does wheelies on snow all day long - no comparison to the trenchers.

The only bad thing is that the tires are bigger and more narrow and make the truck flip over more often.

    Here are some pics:

No problem with the Hex on 4s:

    and compasison with the Trenchers:

Looks great! Sure they would work well on ice too. I have thought about this mod, but afraid of a screw flying out at top speed and hitting me in the eye. Especially on 4s. Thats my kind of luck. Are the screws in there well? Any possibility of them coming out? Can only imagine the traction they would have in grass.

I don't think that the screws can come out except if the tire rips.

The button heads are much to big and the holes i drilled are very small.

But I'll keep an eye on this.

i was driving my p4de today and the spur got shaved down lolol!!! do you think cold weather could do that, or could it be something else... it is about 25f today and by shaved down i mean the spur is just about round... no more fins should i just get another stock one or is there a stronger replacement?

and i agree, i would be scared if getting hit in the face with a nail! but... the insane traction would make it worth it

@waya: No - a shaved down spur has nothing to do with cold temps.

Get a new stock spur an set the gear mesh properly.

I run the castle 1415 2400kv motor on 4s and have no issues with spur.

@ray: get the proline mashers, put in those spikes and put them on the stock rims.

your pinion gear on your motor isn't properly meshed with the spur

If gear mesh is set properly it might be another issue. I never had issues with the spur but also a friend of mine is stripping them all the time and we could never really find out the reason.

Our guess was that sand was entering and cought inside because he was running his stampede in the gravel pit pretty often.

But also he uses an aluminium motor mount and the spur has much more play than mine. You could move it for- and backward 3-4mm. Maybe this could also be the reason.

You have to find out yourself: Try and Error.

One strip of paper is all that is required. Two will be too much of a gap, causing improper mesh and killing your spur gear.

No - I also use two strips of paper for years now for all my vehicles. Never had one issue with the spur or pinion.

Nice job on the spikes, I've been running spikes for three years and never had one come out or tear the tire 2 & 3s only. In saying that you have to use a tire that has some beef to it.
As for gear mesh another way is to set it by sound, here is a vid on that.

Note: Spur and Pinion need to be in good shape.

Thanks dude. To bad all the snow is gone - but weather forecast is telling it is getting cold the next days.

I think the spike will work good on frozen surface.

Also I can't image the screws can come out - no chance.
