I've made the mistake of putting new batteries in and not plugging the plug into the remote its self.

It was the firmware update. If you go on YouTube and type in " Traxxas TQI Problem " and click on the 1st and 2nd vid, you will see people that their remote will not turn on. Luckily I had a spare TQI remote and took the base out of the 1 month old one and put it in my 6 month old one. Let's hope that it will not conk out on me again, and if it does, I will get a specktrum radio.

I think Traxxas should refund our postage when we have to send these new TQi's to them for warranty replacement.

My tqi did the same thing. Traxxas said send it back and we will repair it as it was just 6 weeks old. Great job by them and hey did repair it. I went and bought a Futaba during the repair period and the repaired TQi sits as a backup. The Futaba is excellent.

Can't answer for what kind of radio Next has, but the PL4 is a great mid-level radio for about $250. I like Spektrum radios myself, I like the model-match feature.
