It is waterproof. The picture is the older model. You have the newer waterproof model with the fan... found here: http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...inder_sct.html
Notice the "waterproof" banner across the top of the image.

One thing I do suggest getting with that is the mount kit I think its snappy rc makes them so you don't have to tape it down and it comes with a place to moung the on/off switch

The newer SV3's sct escs are 'now waterproof' as stated by castle. However having the fan included leads me to think that's it is a newer sv3. I would call castle to get a definitive answer on this.

Bought this one near a year ago with a fan installed.

There is no real visual difference between the two, while I have not seen a waterproof unit up close, from pics the look the same.
I believe the fan was installed after they had a rash of overheating complaints on the original version which came with a motor fan that a lot of people put on the esc instead.
When I bought my last three sidewinders the picture on the box was the original unit tho it contained the new one.

There's only one SCT Sidewinder combo though... Right? So if it has that sticker and it's newer, it's waterproof... Right?

There are waterproof sidewinder sct esc's
Castle has had some advertisements in rcca and their latest one said "sct combos are now waterproof!"
Not sure if that's the new one but they are availible or will be very soon
The new ones look the same as the old ones, they still have the fan and everything

Jeez dude. I was busy. I just happened to get on after he posted his comment. I don't tend to believe 1 person but when 3 people say something that conflicts with what I thought, I start to think I'm wrong.

the castle rep i talked 2 weeks ago said they look virtually identical. and to go with the what the paper work that came with it said. Since the discontinued ones are not off everyones shelf yet. Id figure they change the labeling or sticker on the esc or something but it doesnt seem as tho they have.

Found some more info about the waterproof sct today, tower has pics of the waterproof one. There is visible difference between the two, if you fan is removeable on the sct it is most likly water proof.

I think it's safe to go by the included manual too. If it says anything about waterproof, it's waterproof.

Its all a bit silly to me.
I dont run in water or even wet conditions, I'm more concerned about the lipo then anything else.
I know a fella that put a lipo that had gotten wet earlier in the day on his garage hobby bench, went to dinner with his wife only to return to a burning home.
Imo, even the said waterproof units are at risk in these conditions.
Also imo, waterproof and not intend for operation submerged in liquid are contradicting statements by definition.
A water resistance degree rating would imo be a more appropriate way of stating their water tolerating abilitys.
Please note all the above imo's as this is all they are, I'm aware many have a lot of fun in the water and wish everyone the best, I just dont care for all the other recommended maintenance that should be done when operating in these conditions so when maniacal failure arises no one is blaming the company selling said waterproof units.
Just opinions fellas, I even enjoy watching the slash water running videos.
