Range. No ladder. I start so far away that the car sometimes loses reception. I occasionally have to raise my arms to get back in range.

    Stench:

What batteries are you running in your transmitter? I think I read somewhere that Traxxas does not recommend running 4 NiMh batteries because of range problems, so I guess there is a relation between battery voltage and range. I put a 6.6V LiFe pack in mine because of this. Although I haven't tested range yet, maybe it's worth a try?

I've been running 4 duracells in mine. It would be great if I could figure out a way to increase my range.

It may not be much but maybe try a different radio system?

In tests, Futabas are said to have the most range of all top branded radios.

Yeah, I would be interested in trying that out but I use the thumbswitch to release the parachute. It works so well I wouldn't want to change.

I read this thread few months back, and if I remember correctly he used wifi signal enhancers. I may be wrong but he did do something to increase his signal, cause I know he was wanting to do some traveling with his summit. If not FPV people would know what you could to help. Great build by the way man, very impressive!

The 4PLS as well as the 4PK has a programmable thumb switch that Channels 3 & 4 can be assigned to, as well as many functions. 32% increase in range, its worth a shot if it matters...

I'll check that out. Always wondered how this thing would do in FPV. Two questions arise.....will the FPV system have enough range, and is it possible to drive a car like this in FPV at 150? It seems like it might be easier.....but lots of things do until you actually try them. I probably will experiment with this at some point.

Good luck with what ever you come up with. It would seem range is pretty important as the need for speed and run out increases.

    Hello,

I found this very interesting thread.
I just sent a PM to TheStenchOfSpeed and I hope he could kindly help me.
Which kind of set hub (eleventh pic) was used in order to fit the spurs 46t to the motors?

    Thank you for your time

The stench of speed- you have nothing to prove to anyone. What you have here is a great piece on engineering. And you should be very proud of that. And we should all be proud of his effort and especially his transparency. Too many vids I seen where people cover this or hide that. Also. It's people like the stench of speed who continually help us to learn how to push the envelope and essentially go big, or go home. I applaud you and your efforts. It truly is a dream to be able to replicate something like that. Peace.

Dani, the hubs are just some stuff I handmade. They work with the Traxxas spurs which gives quite a bit of options. Works great and very trouble free. When done this way, the power applied to the spur gear is split which reduces the pressure applied at the contact point of the gears. If alignment is correct, the gears last quite some time even with ridiculous amounts of power. Hope this helps.

When I get a free moment I'll try and make a list of modifications so far. I am in the midst of making major changes so many of these mods are already obsolete in my car.

Here is at least a partial list in no particular order.

    1. Custom hinge pins and reaming at all four corners to eliminate a-arm slop. Both ends of control arm.
    2. Red revo springs at all four corners. Stiffest ones I could find.
    3. Front shocks internally modified to limit travel.
    4. Entire car lowered in to the dirt.
    5. Foam front tires.
    6. 2wd. Center and both drive shafts deleted.
    7. Front diff deleted.
    8. Savox servo.
    9. Billet servo arm. Shortened and re-drilled.
    10. Front caster blocks drilled and converted to ball bearing to eliminate slop.
    11. Billet drag link. Ball bearing.
    12. Billet servo saver delete. Ball bearing.
    13. Twin parachutes and related hardware.
    14. Chassis side rails ground down for ground clearance.
    15. 40 weight shock oil all around.
    16. Rear shocks modified to limit compression.
    17. Custom dual motor mount.
    18. Additional motor.
    19. Twin MGM speed controls.
    20. 4 8500 MAH Maxamps 4s batteries. Total of twin 8s power supply.
    21. Custom battery mounts.
    22. 2s battery for BEC.
    23. BEC to supply receiver power.
    24. Custom Go Pro mount.
    25. Custom billet gear hubs. Allows ridiculous gearing reliably.
    26. Rear shock tower welded and re-drilled to allow movement of shocks.
    27. Rear shocks installed behind control arms for room.
    28. Custom rear wing and mounting points on the car.
    29. Gyro and custom mount.
    30. Aero mods to the body.
    31. Billet rear control arms to eliminate flex under extreme power.
    32. Modified front body mounts.
    33. Rear diff filled with epoxy to make a spool. I have since found that traxxas makes a part for this for the revo.
    34. Heated and re-shaped front splitter.
    35. After market bearings all around. They won't make you faster but the quality is a little better.
    36. Heavily modified rear tires. Only thing I'm not talking about.

I'm sure there is some stuff I have forgotten, if I remember it I will add it later. Like I said, most of this stuff is changing drastically now because I am completely overhauling this car. I'm taking a different approach now because I no longer have access to that ridiculously good test spot. I still plan on going faster than ever, I just have to do it in less distance.

38 inches plus wing which I haven't made yet. I figure total of 39. Probably still at least a month away from driving.

I love what you guys are doing with these cars! Question for some of you. Do you find the docking base as a useful tool when running these cars? Reason I ask is that I am building a car (not an xo-1) for some high speed runs and it looks like some features may be of some use. Thanks!

It's not really a body. It's a mold for a mold. I think it's sometimes referred to as a "buck" or a negative. From this I will make the mold that I will then use to make a body, more than likely out of carbon.

It's useful but you have to know how to use it. It's kind of a poor mans data logger if you learn what information to keep and what to discard as tire spin.
