    Brushless issue

    Hey guys,
I threw a Reedy brushless system from a TA SC10 in my Traxxas Monster Jam truck running 2s lipo.

    90t spur and 16 pinion.

I was checking temps and they got to about 165 F.

But after about 20-25 mins of running and jumping (mainly on tar road, some grass running), the truck slowed to barely anything and I noticed a tiny bit of smoke from the motor. Again it was about 165F. Can't remember esc reading but it wasn't high.

I let it cool and then tried again (for about 15 seconds) and it ran again.

    Any ideas on what happened?

Should I look at my gearing?

The motor got too hot I think and went into thermal protection (dont quote me on exact words) so it wouldn't burn out gear up to see where that goes I would say about 19/87 or 21/87 and see where that goes

Just bought a 19/86 set up... Will see how that goes when it arrives!

with that new combo of gears you are removing 4 teeth from the spur but you are adding 3 to the pinion. I don't think you are going to notice much difference. If you want to lower temps I would leave the 90T spur on there and drop the pinion down.
raising the pinion will increase speed and heat at the motor.

That's what I thought as well, but a majority of people reckon it's a good set up... I don't even know if my motor and esc are going to hold up and work properly after the weekend issue.

Will wait till I get my package and try the new pinion and see what happens.

    Thanks for the advice.

So I took it out for a 10 min run today with the temp gun at close hand.

After that run with the 16/90 gearing the esc was 100 F and the motor was 137 F.

    Should I try a 14T pinion?

Not sure about that. particular system but i have heard that you want no higher than 160 at the motor. I would say you could actually add one or two teeth to the pinion.
I would say leave it there unless you need more speed, just keep checking those temps.
