Even better idea, just call it a rally and not give it a scale, and then call the 1/16 just the "mini" rally. Viper, stuff will break so you should have something to write about...

Yeah the Rally body itself can't be considered a 1/10, Sure a slash Truck body, but the Rally body seems about 1/8th.

That's a good idea. But Traxxas got it kind of backwards, calling mini-rally for Rally...

All that matters to me is not the name or the scale, but that Viper is showing us the many uses of this chassis.

Ha, Ha, Thanks Sean! I may have slowed down some what with the season, but I'll keep trying!

I'm going to ditch these MIP 17mm adapters I think, they suck! I need to make a set of set screw based ones that will clamp on to the axles instead.

Did a couple small test runs today just to see it is smoother than I though it would be checking out the cvd options now, as they are needed with the power.

The wheel nuts don't thread on to the hub, rather they thread on to the axles, they actually create a side load on the bearings as they tend to press the hub against the bearings if tightened too much.

More power can be a good thing

I'm going to modify a set of standard STRC 17mm adapters. Drill and inset a set screw to lock it down on the axle. It will be the better solution over the MIPs.

So I'm thinking the Golden Horizons rear bearing carriers maybe a cause to the issues I'm having with the MIP 17mm adapters and side loading on the rear bearings. I think there maybe a variance from inner and outer bearing distance that does not allow the crush washer to do its job. As it was I had to originally enlarge the bearing hole to just to get the inner bearing into them. Not much but I did have to take dremel to ID lightly.

I decided to try a set of STRC bearing carriers instead. Lets hope this fixes the bearing load and the slop around the pivot pin as well.

The front end is STRC and is nice and tight, with no bearing issues from the adapters. The rears are Golden Horizon Racing, and they have a lot of slop, vibrate and shake like crazy when running the car up on the bench :O

I placed a shim on the pivot pin to take up the front to back slop.

Isn't 17mm adapter secured with a retainer which should get rid of play. With my xo-1 adapter I only have to put one of each at the rear of the thinnest washer, once I tightened the retainer it will locked the pin. I'm under the impression that all adapters with retainers locked the pin.

Umm, I may have misstated or misunderstood this post. I'm not getting play int he 17mm adapter, rather the bearing holder where it mounts to the Protrac A-Arms. The GHR holders slide around on the suspension pin that threads into the A-Arm.

Does that clarify or further confound?

Ooh, I see. I put washers on mine but I can still feel the back and forth play and I think it has something to do with the pin being a tad smaller. One guy from Xo-1 forum uses larger pin from a drill bit and at each end he use e-clip to secure from falling out.

Yeah, I think the hole on the GHR bearing holder is larger than the pin. I too have shimmed my holders to prevent lateral play, however there is still a lot of up and down play do to the shaft/hole variance.

The XO-1 set up is a good option.

Okay, I couldn't help myself and purchased another Rally Roller

This Rally is all stock as a brand new take off.

I have been wanting to build a Rally like I originally intended, however the GT8 distracted me lol. This Rally I'm going to build I typical Rally car fashion. I have many of the required upgrade parts already. This factored heavily in my choice to stay in the Traxxas camp. May as well when so many parts will be exchangeable from my Rally/GT8, my Ultimate and even parts of my XO-1. Traxxas knew what they were doing when they planned and engineered their family of RC cars.

I was thinking about maybe getting a Serpent Cobra GT8 for on road, and converting my Rally/GT8 back, but then I didn't want to stock a whole nother set of parts.... And I don;t race onroad anymore, so my Rally/GT8 should be a good basher.

Looking forward to an OEM Rally style kit.

Yes, it looks very nice. I was only thinking of the Serpent as a long time RC firend of mine is a sponsored driver in the 1/10 TC class as well as the distributer in Sask.
