I found the same thing... but:

When I changed my ESC, I had good brakes.
    - Everything else was stock.

When I changed my controller, I had good brakes.
    - Everything else was stock.

My conclusion was that it has something to do with the combination of the stock controller and ESC.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

I know, that was one of the things that made me decide to upgrade to a Mamba Max.

    That makes sense.

I am assuming it was a programmable ESC?

As for tx/rx swapping out, the stock system does all its "programming" through the TX/rx, so swapping that out should change things a bit.

If you change your ESC to something like the Mamba Max Pro, you'll have enough braking power to do front flips.

Even with the brake power turned way down! I had my brake power at 50% and in a panic brake situation I found it was to much, so I turned it down to 25% and again in a panic I was cart wheeling across the yard. Maybe 12% will be safe.

True, when I changed my ESC to sidewinder sv2, I had good brakes, anything else was stock.
