Sounds, crazy... but try unplugging the servo and see if everything else starts working.
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

    Were you running in series?
    Might have burnt it out

Did you check all the connections? Battery plugs, ESC plugs, serial adaptor plugs....

Yeah everything is fine its all connected and no pinched wires or anything, there is power in it because the steering still works but the ESC wont turn on.

14.4V is SERIAL not PARALLEL ....

If your steering works, the ESC is doing it's job at least partly. The power for the servo comes from the receiver, which is powered by the ESC. When the ESC is turned off, the receiver doesn't get any power.

Yeah that's what I don't understand how the power is going throw the ESC to the steering but isint powering the ESC its self, also another thing I just noticed was that you can push the button no lights turn on bit then the steering turns on but when I try and turn it off it just doesn't wanna turn off at all, and no I didn't unplug the servo from the receiver everything was working just fine when I was using it then it just stopped when I was using it.

Please take the time to unplug the SERVO from the receiver.
I have seen a "working" servo cause so many electrical issues.

The ESC has an internal BEC. This is what powers the servos and the receiver.
If you plug your batteries into the ESC without it being hooked into the receiver, it is supposed to do nothing as it is not getting any commands to do anything.

Ok i unplugged the servo from the receiver and tried to turn on the ESC on but it still isn't doing anything, and if you have a ESC ONLY plugged into the battery ONLY not the receiver or motor it should still turn on i tried it when i first got it and it did turn on and i tried it with my ESC XL2.5 ONLY plugged into the battery and it turns on and lights up too, im starting to think somehow it just burnt out or something for no reason.

my brother's mini summit did the same thing...sent the ESC back to TRAXXAS, AFTER a phone conversation, and turns out, the esc just "messed the bed". They replaced it and all have been right with the world since!

Even though it is rated for it, 3S is hard on the 3M ESC.
I was hoping that a dying servo was causing the issue as they are cheaper to replace.... hopefully Traxxas will warranty it for you for free; but if not, they do have a lifetime exchange program... for a flat fee they will send you a new ESC after you send them your broken one.

LoL. Maybe you should think of another esc if ur going to be using 4s. Any other esc will give it better braking also besides giving you more options in voltage

    NIMh? 2 packs(battery) 6cell 7.2v
    Series connector
Read the manual regarding running with the series connector.
For me just using one NIMh pack was heating things up pretty quick

Yeah 2 NiMH batteries but it said that it can run the 2 NiMH batteries with 14.4V and 12 cells in total with no problems

    Not at all.
Running two stock NiMh in series requires a pinion change as well as short runs on flat surfaces.
Says so right in the manual.

the vxl-3m can handle 16volts so it could be a faulty esc

Not to bring up an old thread but my car is having the same problem. I was just driving it around with one (1) stock battery and it just turned off. steering still works but no power to the motor. I have tried unplugging the servo and nothing happened. Any advice?

I called traxxas and they said It probably overheated. To me that is a LOAD OF CRAP!!!!! because I have just been using one stock battery. I mean seriously!!! How is that going to overheat it? Now I have to buy a new ESC! I really doubt it overheated. What would you guys suggest I do?

Does anyone know what is wrong with my esc. Traxxas says its overheated but that is a lie. Is there a way I can take the esc apart?
