    Question Beginner question

I have a really dumb question, I'm new to nitro though. Where do you check for the engine temp? I just got a used 4908 TMaxx and I've been checking the temps in the hottest place I can find, and I'm having trouble keeping the temps down even though its running rich.

There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers.

Aim it down the center of the head, at the glow plug. Get it as close as you can without actually touching the head.

I like to keep mine between 240 and 250, I get the best performance and longest engine life.

So if its hotter anywhere else on the head, it doesn't matter?

No, the temp at the glow plug is the only one that matters. If you move the temp gun around the engine you will get all sorts of different readings.
