How to safely dispose of a lipo

So i went to do some wrenching on my p4de today and pulled one of my lipos out and it has swollen and popped the hard plastic case open.

What is the safest and fastest way to dispose of it? Now that its damaged is it likely to explode in my hands while handling it? It is sitting out in the parking lot right now

most large chain stores will take em. Walmart has a box to toss em in. The odds of an explosion are minimal but stranger things have happened LOL.

Discharge it safely if you can. I have a lightbulb discharger I use in an open area to do it.

1st: Do not just drop it into any recycling area with any sort of charge in it.

Either cut the leads and drop it in salt water for a few days until the pack reads "0" voltage
    or
Fully discharge by hooking it up to a automotive light bulb

After either of the above methods you then can drop it in for recycling or dispose of it in the trash.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

I took an 8 foot pole with a spike and punctured it all the way thru. It put out a quick puff of smoke and that was it. I dropped it into a bucket of water after that. Once its punctured all the way thru it should be discharged and safe for disposal?
