    Motor & ESC Upgrade Suggestions

    Hello,

I'm really wanting to upgrade my motor and ESC to a more powerful one but a waterproof one as well because I like to submerge my Pede in deep puddles or mud bashing. So if you could please help me that would be awesome. I know I can google this stuff but I like to hear people's own experiences with the products. Thanks

So I was googling around and pardon my noobness I didn't realize Castle Creations now have water proof ESC and Motors. Any suggestion on what motor to get with my Pede?

The esc most commonly used in the p4de made by castle is the mamba max pro, but castle has not developed a waterproof unit of the mmp yet. I think you can use plasti-dip or silicone to waterproof the esc, but that would void the warranty and create the risk for heat issues. The mamba monster max, which is commonly used in the 1/8th scale e-revo and maxx series, comes waterproof from castle and fit in the p4de with some modifications. I suggest you look into hobbywing systems because they seem to perform well and are waterproof too. Here is a link: http://www.hobbywing.com/index.asp

Thanks for the input. I see the http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...dewinder3.html and http://www.castlecreations.com/products/nc1406.html can I not use these two as a combo? Or do I really have to get the http://www.castlecreations.com/produ..._max_pro.html?

if it was my coin and i was concerned with having a "waterproof" pede, i would go this route:

note that you can pick your KV rating.

So after careful research I've decided to pull the trigger and upgrade my motor to http://www.ebay.com/itm/271202332435...84.m1439.l2649 which is what I paid for and saw a awesome video of installation.

Now will I still need the BEC/BEC Pro? I already have a Novak Glitch Buster will that be enough?

You only need a BEC or glitch buster if you are running a Savox servo or a Hitec over 200oz/in. Those are the two most common brand of servos. If you are still running stock, then no need for a BEC.

Ok currently I am running a Savox 2274. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need those BEC/BEC Pro just because I'm getting a newer motor. Thanks for your reply!

Anyone know since I've got a 2200kv motor would I really need http://www.ebay.com/itm/Traxxas-5382...tem1c334c6818?

So far I've got MIP X-Duty in the rear and TRA6851R, http://buy.traxxas.com/product_info....oducts_id=9221, http://buy.traxxas.com/product_info....oducts_id=9279, http://buy.traxxas.com/product_info....oducts_id=9231 and http://buy.traxxas.com/product_info....oducts_id=4543 as far as driving and surviving my bashing sessions.

Do I really need to get 17mm?

Also look at the funny car et3s and et2400, basically the same as the cc 2400 combo except it can only take up to 3s. you can find it on ebay for around the same price or cheaper than the vxl system.

nice setup. now save some money, and when avaliable one of these http://www.spcracing.com/index.php?productID=59 (there sold out till end of june) then with the battery extension kit , http://www.ebay.com/itm/Traxxas-6727...tem4d0984e89fr pede will be a beast.

i do use spc 2s 8200mah lipo in mine. Im still running stock motor/esc, so i only go 2s, but that mm2/2650, and 4s lipo possibilities sure looks good in there. ive heard of people running 6s for a few minutes, and holly molly dude. peace.

Alright I've finally installed the motor and ESC. The ESC is mounted on top of the receiver box with double sided tape on the bottom and zip tied. Once I come up with a better way of mounting the ESC I'll redo it. Here are the pictures. And my dremel skills are HORRIBLE but it did the job it's just ugly looking LOL.

I am waiting for a part from TEKNO because the cup that held the drive line broke don't ask me why I can't figure it out.

I have seen pede's with the esc in place of the receiver box. Then just the receiver in a balloon in the old esc spot. the picturese are somewhere on the stampede 4x4 picture thread.

What I am curious about is how is he running several ESCs. So what I saw on this video he has Castle Creations XL2 and the one below the Garmin GPS but I could't see what kind it was.

So as some of you may know/not know my MM2 took a dive and had smoke coming out of it. I recently sent it in for repair on 06/10/2013 which they received on 06/12/2013. So I called them to check on the repair and was told it will be shipped out today for a new unit and gave me the tracking number. I hope and pray that's all it was is a defective unit and that's it. Praying to the RC God/s!!!

That one would be sweet dude or maybe tenshock I have owned mine for ten months and run it on 2s and 3s and it has not gone over 155f and its geared 15t pinion and 54t spur on 2s its as fast as my vxl on 3s with stock gearing and 3s is hard core and only run it in wide open places. But for 2 bucks more than the one you are looking at you can get the mmp 2400kv and can be run on 2s 3s and 4s with the right gearing ......peace
