    Re-gearing

Hey guys I was just wondering if it would be worth changing the pinion to a 20? I'm running 18/54 on 4s and its pretty quick but will I run in to heat issues with 20/54? Will my torque go down as well?

Torque won't go down if your lyps can supply the juice and your wyres can move it. More gearing options the better. IMAHO :)

I would keep tabs on the temps but you should be ok as long as your lipos can keep up.

I run 20/54 - best gearing I've found. Perfect balance between speed and temperature! It will get hot, but not too hot!

Bash it like someone else has to fix it!

For 4s you may want to try 21/54...I run 20/54 on 6s and my temps are good.

I have never used spur gears that low...lowest for me is 54. If you do try that gearing just keep an eye on temps and see how you go.

I don't use a fan...try 20/54 or 21/54. I use to run 19/62 for a while, my temps would quickly climb up to 72C. I ran my eRevo on this gearing for a couple months...I have gone back to 20/54 on 6s with good results of motor temps between 60 to 66C running my my truck hard.

I'm running a fan on my motor as well as the stock fan on the esc and I have been contemplating on using 6s but will 20/54 or 21/54 be good gearing between 4s and 6s?

Im confused... Your saying i should gear up? Is this under geared for running on 4s? Cuz my motor is getting hot geared 19/54 and from what i understand going 20/54 or 21/54 would increase temps

I don't run 4s but running 6s with 21/54 my motor would get to 75C in a couple runs up and down the street...running 20/54 it stays between 60 to 66C with hard running. A few guy here running 4s have good results running 21/54.

A temp gun is kind of a must have.....

Hot motor + cool esc = under geared.
Cool motor + hot esc = over geared
    Everything warm just right..

Motor ~ 180/190*F (82/88*C) maximum, ideally 140/160*F (60/71*C), temps can be 10*F higher inside the motor
ESC ~ pretty much same temps / Fan comes on @ 150*F (65*C)
    Lipo's ~ 140*F (60*C) max, ideally 100/120*F (38/49*C).........

im running 21/54 on 4 and 5S, generally temps dont go above 150 - 160F. However, If I use my trenchers on the Truck for high speed running, it can start to creap up, so have to have 3-4 mins of slower (not full throttle) running, to bring temps down again. 4S is actually more like 140F.

I run a 19/54 in mine on 4s, temps ran 160 to 180* F on long hard runs off road.... Installed a nice heat sink with cooling fan and now the temps stay in the 140 to 160* range.

On 4s does 45 mph on pavement and when I want to do 75 + wheelies.... 6s of course.... ya!!!!

Has you're run time been cut short? Because in running 20/54 and my run time was cut in half to 20mins

My run times are around 20 to 30 minutes and I think that's about the norm on 5000 mah batteries.... Of course it also depends on how hard you drive....
