    2 speed tranny

I think Traxxas should make 2 speed transmission for the electric. So you would have great acceleration at low speeds and top end speeds. I think it would be good idea. What do you guys think?

That would be cool. I don't really see a need though.

Electric vehicles already have both without a 2-speed.

It would be cool on the Summit. Low gear for crawling and high gear for in between the rock piles.

    Doesn't the Summit have that?

I don't know, don't have one. I've read that a lot of people say they are pretty slow. I figured that electric motor and slow speeds equaled one very low gear.

Just looked at the products page and sure enough, the Summit has high/low gear. Even more awesome than that is that you can shift it from the controller! I think you can lock/unlock the diffs on the fly too.

I don't have a Summit either. Actually, I don't even know anybody that has one. Just thought I remembered it from the release videos back when it came out. They had a vid of it going slow and climbing stuff, then a vid of it on a dirt oval track or something and it was actually going somewhat fast for such a huge truck.

25:1 is a crazy low gear ratio, but 70:1? WOW! I bet that thing is screaming at 5mph. Then it hits 2nd and jumps up to 25 and screams there. But it sounds good for crawling.

    Spot on
Yes it shifts on the flu but eyebrow it being such a big gear difference you have to stop or Rollin stop.
But I agreed a 2 speed tranny would been sweeet in fast electric cars too
First gear could be like 40 mph tops for bashing and second could be 70 or something it would be sweet
    Someone has to build it

What if you put an electric motor on a nitro tranny?

It has been done, before brushless was common place there was a device you installed on the shaft and it went between the motor and tranny. I never saw one in person but all reports said it was problematic and not worth the problems performance wise.

With brushless/lipo power the idea is just not practical.

Hpi had one for the rs4/mt electrics. It's was useless. The spool up from the motor was so fast that it would just skip first and go right in second.
Simply the best. The beautiful Traxxas SRT and TCP
