    summit stock rims

#1 de-chroming them (by Jimmie Neutron)

Here is how I did it...

    1) Cleaned the dirt off
    2) Took the rings off
    3) Cleaned more dirt off
    4) Sprayed it down with yellow cap oven cleaner
    -Used WalMart brand first...
did not get all the chrome off, but could be due to my impatience (2 hours)
-Bought a can of the real thing...
Easy Off with the yellow cap then sprayed them down and left them overnight
I did reapply a few times during the night
    5) Hosed them down
    6) Picked at a few spots with a tooth pick
    7) Washed them with soap and water in the bath tub
    8) Let them dry outside
    9) Installed the rings

maybe something to add to the cut hubs slop fix, Z680 is the hpi part number for the wide wheel nuts alone. saves a few bucks i guess

I hope I'm not the only one that has had axle/CV pins slide out a little and break the end of the axle tube. Here's a simple fix for all 8 of them. Sorry no pics for this.

The little groove in the center is too shallow. I used a Dremel with a cut off wheel and ground a small flat spot in the center of the pin for the grub screw to seat better. Just remove the grub completely re-insert the pin aligning the new ground flat spot with the grub hole and re-install the grub screw.

On a side note if you have had the pleasure of breaking spiders and have purchased factory replacements (PN# TRA5382X), the pin in the kit that the spiders ride on, will also double as a CV pin if you grind a flat spot in the center for the grub as well. Handy if you've lost an original CV pin. Also in that same factory spider gear kit there are hardened output shafts. If your handy and have access to a lathe you can drill a 3mm hole (carbide bit highly recommended) through them and cut off the shaft for a set of homemade hardened spiders. (Shim as necessary)

They work GREAT!!! And since they were unused spares from the spider kits I had bought they were basically free! I have not had an issue with them yet even under brushless power.
