Is there such a thing as a real life Summit?

You see the videos on youtube, monster trucks driving through the mud, but of course they have solid axles which get hung up on everything, it seems.
My guess is that to build something with massive tires requires something stronger than what hugely articulating independent suspension can provide, and that's why we don't see any real world designs like that.

Shame, sure would be fun to have a single person vehicle with the same articulation and suspension that the Summit has...

not exactly the same but with lockers, low gearing, and independent suspension useful for climbing and high speeds I would say the HMMWV

Albeit with the short arm "LT summit" set up.
As far as the lay-down shock/cantilever set up I have only seen these on formula 1 cars and Porsches.

But there was an episode on some '' pump my ride" like tv show that made a truck very similiar to a summit on purpose just to show they could (cantilevers and independent suspension) but this was a one time build rig. I think it was on the speed channel. Someone linked to it on the summit boards about a year ago.

Those rock buggies come close, but they are solid axles as well.
If I had the money I'd build one. Maybe even power it hydraulically so I could control each tire if I had to, and with great precision, maybe some jacks placed at various locations that could push off things if need be, or maybe just a suspension that I could push down on one wheel when I need to, etc. 4 wheel steering, the possibilities (and expense) are endless!

I know it's a buggy, and small, and outboard shocks, and... well... lots of other things. More like a vxl revo actually but it lands surprisingly well. It's still impressive. Scale this design up and add a front diff.

Amazing, landing that big air without a down ramp. Looks like at the end he might have tweaked a front suspension? That's my guess as to why we don't see anything like a real Summit, a solid axle is just so much stronger than the ball joints required for a "delicate" independent suspension...

Found it - Extreme 4x4 (power block)

its called the curvy buggy -
    +++++++++++++++++++++==
    - cantilever suspension
    - arb air actuated diff lockers
    - 4 wheels steering

They even admit that they copied the suspension from the summit (see their video).

    Very cool!

Still a solid axle, though. I'm always hoping for something that won't drag on rocks or pull through the mud. That's one of the beautiful things about the Summit (and Hummer) is that there's no diffs hanging down...

And then in the very next episode they decide to turn it into a mud buggy and take out the cantilever suspension entirely. Dangit.

    Still a cool vehicle, though...

Wow, that is a nice jeep. Creative and useful. Crazy suspension capabilities. Did you notice the haters and their responses. Anytime someone mentions independent suspension there is someone there, not to debate but to spit out pure hatred! Its amazing, same response in real life and in the r.c. world. Pure hatred as if they had a personal stake in the matter.

that cantilever set up has been around for years in offroad racing its nothing newit is copied off the summit but that "curvy" buggie was truely a waste ,, if you know anything about building offroad chassis or crawlers , there is supposed to be minimal amount of bends and as many triangles as you can do in structural areas , i think the summit looks closest to a lifted jeep cherokee especially the LT summit

I think a few years back some one also had entered a Independent suspension vehicle in the King of the hammers competition

I need to go see the KOH race. Maybe I'll enter the Summit in it.
