Im no longer a nitro guy but I can say that when i was, the traxxas 3.3 motors were pretty good at being easy to tune and the EZstart system made getting them running... well... easy. If you sticking with onroad running maybe a jato would be a good choice. They look cool, are fast and can handle more terrain than just pavement.

Definitely. Save up until you have it. It is definitely worth it.

If you were not new, I would suggest looking into buying a used nitro... they go for a fraction of new.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

I'd go for the Jato. It's almost as fast as the 4-tec, and it can go offroad.

Your options are pretty limited with $350. I had a 4-Tec and loved it at first. I just got tired of the cost of fuel and glo plugs. Adjusting fuel mixtures and trying to keep it running was getting really old too. I got to the point where it seemed like I spent more time maintaining than driving. Not to mention no reverse. Its totally up to you if you want to give it a try. Some people really enjoy it, but its not for everyone.

Who needs nitro, when you got LiPo?

I second this... just on-road gets old quick for me.

Prepare to have your patience tested as there is a steep learning curve for nitro engines. It is not like doing a quick tune of your small engine (such as lawn mower, chain saw, weed whip, et al.) and be good for the season. Read up on how to tune a nitro engine, watch YouTube videos on how to do it and understand what you are getting into. Once you get a hold of tuning they are fun rigs to run and you will not spend more time tuning/maintaining than running (like others have/will make it sound like).
