    New ESC arrived. Need advice

New EVX2 arrived that will replace that went up in smoke.
It happened while my 3603 was just sitting on the work bench. First the ESC started blinking rapid green.
Then the throttle servo started twitching like crazy. Then the ESC started glowing red and before I could pull the batteries off: BAM!
I still have no idea why the last ESC did that and there is no way that I am about to install the new one until I know what happened. Is there any way I can protect the new ESC? What kind of test can I do to check for shorts? What kind of resistance should I be reading across the Titans motor windings?
If I don't get to the bottom of this, I guarantee my new ESC will do another reenactment of the 3 mile island
    Disaster.
    Thanks

Have you tested the battery yet? That might be the problem. I agree with waiting until you identify the problem.

Unplug all your servos before plugging in the new ESC. I have seen bad servos take out the ESC...
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

Check cell voltage and pack voltage.
