if a nitro engine has scratches in the block can it be reused?

ok so my 3.3 had a broken connection rod and when i bought it used i turned it over a few times thinking "its prolly gummed up and needs to be cleaned" so i get home and sure enough its a busted connecting rod and every time i turned it over it scratched inside the grove in the engine should this matter when i rebuild it?

Yes, the piston sleeve needs to be perfectly smooth to work, so the engine can can build up good compression.

I think he is saying the block itself has scratches, yes that would affect the way the air flows, especially on how tight the tuning already is on this motor...

Always assume a used nitro thats not running infront of you is going to have a bad engine.
$65 for all that isn't bad.

Ebay yourself a new 3.3 for $100 and call it a day, the broke 3.3 you have is not worth rebuilding.
    Look out for the tree/crunch!

    LiPo? Naw NITRO!!

IF the block is scratched (not the piston and sleeve but the block itself, it should be OK depending on how deep the scrratch AND it's locations.

However you will need new piston, new sleeve, new conrod ... $60.00 package deal on Ebay
    New Bearings $20.00-$30.00
At that point you've put $90.00 into an engine that you can buy brand new off Ebay already built and never fired for $105.00

But you don't have your old engine to use as spare parts, rebuild as a back up or sell the parts to help offset the costs a little.
