I would say the esc shorted and shot flames toward lipo I dont think the lipo actually stated on fire, or even puffed. I will check tommorow.

I can't see it all, but IMO, you'd be taking a big chance running that LiPo again.

Cant use that lipo again, but you could put a volt meter on it...

I hope there was no other damage to the truck.

What led up to the "show"?

did you have an extinguisher or a bucket of water handy to put the fire out? damage looks like it couldve been a lot worse... at least you dont have to replace the whole truck (from what i can see).

I was doing speed runs, 3 before the fire, on about 300ft strip of parking lot, went to the end of lot to do last speed run, feathered throttle then gave it more and it cogged then stopped, nothing for 3 seconds then the white smoke strarted rolling out, then stopped thick white smoke, then came the thick black smoke, ran over ripped the cover off, esc was on fire 5 inch flame, wires from bat to esc both melted off which stopped the engraging fire, checked batt not smoking or anything, blew out fire on esc, unclipped the batt and flung it far away from me in case it blew up.

Wow. That sounds dangerous. At least no one got hurt. We should probably use safety glasses when that happens, but that's almost impossible to plan for.

This is the third case of Hobbywing SC-8 blewing up I see... I think that everybody experiencing cogging issue, like you had, should STAY AWAY from this esc...
Sorry hobbywing, but your esc is a dangerous failure...

No it's not, just make the glasses part of your kit and carry them when you drive.

I'm 100% sure that some castle esc went in flame too, but, it may be only a coincidence, I didn't heard any story like it in this forum...

IMO no where near as many has the Hobby Wing and EZ Run even though Castle has been around longer. Every company has failures but Castle stands behind their stuff better than Hobby Wing does.

That's what I wanted to say: not because I never saw one that it mean it never happened. Nothing is human-proof, so everything can goes in flames!

I would also say that someone willing to spend the money for a castel/tekin system prolly pays a lot more attention to over/under gearing and overall health of there equipment then some people who just want a budget brushless system(not saying that's the case with the op) I'm not denying the face that castel and tekin both have superior CS to hobbywing and the quality may be better but I am very impressed with all my hobbywing ESC's

I had a mmp that wouldn't work straight out of the factory
Also had an SC8 that smoked on 3s.
This was within a month. Now I'm back to running with a mmp.
Anyways my point is that sometimes we just get lemons. Both are great ESCs IMHO.

I've heard good things about spc's customer support. Don't know about hw though so good luck with that dude.
Really sux this happened to your truck man but kaka happens even to the best set ups. My sc8 smoked up the first time I used a 3s so now its part of my "hall of shame" burnt up escs. (man i must have more than 6 or so of those)
Good luck with gettin your pede back up man.
