    NiMh Cycling question

Just got a new Traxxas ez Peak Plus
I'm not sure i understanding the cycling of NiMh and NiCd batteries.....I was under the impression it was good to do this from time to time....So i set it up to discharge my 7 cell 3000mah NiMh at 1a and stop at 5.4 volts.....and it stayed discharging for over an hour....This doesn't seem right.....am i not doing it right or does it take that long normally?

    How to cycle a NiMh:
    1) Discharge at 1C to .9v/cell
    2) Charge at 1/10th C until delta peak is achieved and let them cool
    3) Perform the above 2 steps 2-3 times.

5.4 volts is too low for a 7 cell pack. You want to aim for (.9x7) 6.3 volts.
You are also discharging really slow... for a 3,000mAh pack you want to discharge at 3 amps.
Be sure to charge at .3 amps when you get to that step.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

I think the EZ peak plus will only discharge at 2a max. So on the charge part of the cycling I should only have it charge at .3 amps?
