    Brushless drill motors?

Has anyone looked into brushless drill motors instead of DeWalt brushed as an upgrade? I think there are several mfrs like hitachi makita and Milwaukee.

    Just curious.
What broke, uh, needs upgrading now?

All brushless motors are waterproof, it's the esc that's not, or a sensor port, but a regular non sensored motor like the MMM 2200kv motor is waterproof per say. You would have to get a brushless esc to run these motors as well and I'm sure they are not sensored motors but I could be wrong, never seen one apart, but I would guess it would be a non sensored motor.

I bought the new 18v makita brushless drill a few months back and I've been wanting to take that motor out and run it in my summit from day one. The drop and impact have si much torque that i dont use much of full throttle unless I got to put some bigger bolts in. My brushless impact snapped a 3/8 bolt a couple months back. It's so amazing...... But I can't break down to pull it apart to ruin a tool I use every day.

Just open it up, measure the dimensions of the motor and snap us a picture or 2.

I think somebody used a Dewalt 20v Brushless motor a little while back

I cant imagine a brushless drill motor is any different than a really low KV hobby grade motor.

13 is the motor i am thinking or 13+14 together because it looks like the rotor and then the magnets are in 14 perhaps?

It says 13 is the chuck and 14 is the gear assembly. I was thinking 6 and 7

    13 is the chuck
    14 is the gear assembly
    6 is the rotor
    7 is the stator
6 and 7 are the main components for the motor
I believe some Makita motors have power leads that attach directly to the back of the motor and in others the power connection is part of 16.

It does look there is no motor can. Maybe this brand/model wouldn't work.

It is true that a BL -capable ESC would be required.

It may also be true that a drill's BL motor might simply be a low-KV motor. On the makita website it shows a 6-pole BL motor:

I think the drill itself is the motor. 6 is the shaft and 7 or 17 or the innards of 14 are the magnets

This drill obviously won't work but eventually drills must have a one piece motor unit for ease of repairs and interchangeable components will lessesn the cost of the drill.

think thats what the little board in there is for perhaps connected 8+9 and the board with wires above 9 on the pic is for the esc maybe.

    14 is the gearbox
6+7 is the motor on the rear of 6 is the fan
But as pave says it's just a low kV motor. >1000 I think

While there may be a tiny ESC in there, it doesnt have any kind of reverse or other settings that make it suitable for an RC. The motor is definitely 6 and 7 combined, you can see the spline on the end of #6 that would fit into the gearbox. To be honest, im really surprised at how small it is in relation to the gearbox (#14). If you think about how big the 14.4 volt motors weve been running are in relation to the rest of a typical drill, this brushless motor is TINY.

most drill are reversable (at least dewalts are) and a low kv is what a summit is all about - TORQUE. Eventually companies will make different style brushless motors - rc usable styles.

But think you could get a brushless esc and a brushless motor from one old drill.

Yep... I'm looking through my local listings for one. I post if I find anything.
