    Battery "C" Rating Question

Will the c rating of a battery effect motor temps? Will using higher C rated batteries keep motor temps down a little? I ask this because, I think my crappy (cheap) 3s lipos are needing to be replaced soon. I've heard that the higher the c rating the better, but that's usually for better performance. Here is my setup:

    Crappy 3s lipos 20-30c
    Hobbywing WP-SC8 120a ESC
    Hobbywing 3400kv 3656 motor
    2.8" Trenchers
    Geared 14/54

I left my temp gun over a friends house last week. Today, after 1 pack the motor seemed to get very hot by touch, and the batteries were quite warm.

Its really hard to tell if the motors overheated without a temp gun so I cant help you there.

The c rating may have an effect if the battery is not currently supplying the amount that the motor is able to pull. If anything, a higher c rating would make temps go up. To combat high temps however, its just best to gear down. You dont want to run a low c pack on that setup as it might fry your pack.

How hot are your packs after a run?

Guessing around 130-140F for the battery packs. Last week, my last pack I ran was 139. Any suggestions for 3s packs around 5000mAh with a high c rating?

I'm also wanting to upgrade the motor to something 1/8 scale to help keep temps down but think better batteries first.

Thats too hot for a pack imo. Just gear it down a bit and youll be fine.

As far as packs go, spc is my favorite brand. They have some nice 3s packs with high ratings for around $60 right now.

I really want to try SPC batteries. I always hear good reviews. But they always seem to be out of stock of what I want.
I was liking the 50c 3s, but it is always out of stock. Thought maybe it's time to upgrade the motor, so looked at the 4s. Also out of stock.

In fact, no 3s or 4s lipos in stock.

And they have been out of stock for about a month!!

I feel your pain. Both my packs puffed and they have been out of stock for months on the packs I want. Ive been forced to run on a 6cell with my 2400/mmp combo . Hopefully they will come in stock soon. Theres a reason Ive waited so long for them.

They're always out of stock over there... I guess they're a victim of their own success.

I really enjoy my spc batteries. The product and the customer service. I have more than a few of them. I recently put a 2400kv in my slash and my 2s's are now just sitting around jealous of my 3s's.
