One of my last major upgrades for this truck, the SCTE 2.0 center diff/motor mount. This was influenced by a striped idler gear in the 2wd slash tranny. But I also wanted something with no other internal gears, something that was easier to work on and something of high quality so it wouldn't break. The SCTE is a solid truck, so I thought that its motor mount would be a great choice, and it also uses Mod1!

Here's my 3800 mounted up with the new parts. I'm going to start with 14/40 gearing.

This is the only other piece you need to run this motor mount. You can only find it on the E-Revo/E-Maxx driveshaft, it's the small axle (TRA5451X). I will just weld it in place inside of the out-drive on the center diff, which will also be locked. Then I can simply attach the driveshaft to that piece.

Since the SCTE 2.0's new motor mount fits directly on its chassis, I had to make a motor plate similar to before. I have to cut out a small notch so that the spur can spin freely.

    Here's the finished product:

It's still decent, but nothing like it was without them. Before I could do 3-wheeled donuts! These new sway bars definitely work better than the first ones, they can flex enough to tilt the axle a good amount. The other ones didn't let it articulate at all...

I finished this all earlier, so here's everything mounted up. I had to also trim the top plate so that the motor sits straight.

No you're right, it Castle's 3800kv. It does well powering this truck and the temps are decent too. I wasn't expecting it to stay cool, but it didn't overheat. It was pretty quick before, but with this new gearing it should fly!

Nice, I find it weird though on ebay that the castle 3800 can be bought with the sidewinder esc for about $110 and the motor alone is about $130 for buy it now. I think I may end up with a tacon motor.

My brother and I are actually having a trophy truck build-off, and he actually just finished up his a couple days ago. Unlike mine, he used the front from the HPI blitz, but the rest of the truck is a pretty standard design. We made a short video just to introduce it, check it out

Now for a truck update. Did most of my work today on the body. I added the metal mesh for the grill and I cut out vents and backed them with black mesh. I also did some detail on the back like the fuel nozzle, which I thought added a nice touch. Then the obvious body cut up. I decided that I'm going to mount the body in pieces for realism and easy access to different parts. The cool part was that I only had to add one more body post for each fender.

what size steel rod did you use for the sway bars? The only problem i've had with my TT were the sway bars.

We're planning on asking for permission to run on this open dirt area we found. I'm sure they wouldn't mind us build up some jumps as long as we take them down.

Wish I could see pictures of your build, since I don't have an account I can't see em. But I did find a small piece of left over rod that I used and it's 1/8th inch. I find that the further the sway bars are from the fulcrum the smaller the rod has to be. With the sway bars how they are now they work great, opposed to when the were futher back, they were too stiff.

Sometime last week I noticed a slight grinding/binding noise coming from the truck while accelerating and at speed. I went for hours trying to figure out what was causing it. I though that maybe it was the drive shaft, maybe gear mesh, but whatever I did to try and fix it, the noise was still there. So I finally took off the axle. I rolled it back and forth and I found that it was actually the axle grinding at a certain point in rotation. I then opened it up and found that the main drive and pinion gear were almost sharp and both severely worn down. Not quite sure what caused this, but a while ago I do remember a wheel nut coming off and stripping a wheel. After that I also noticed a wobbly axle on one side. Maybe that incident started it and it just wore down from there, who knows..

Monday I ordered a set of new gears and a replace replacement axle set ($40 total). Those parts got here today, so I did a complete tear-down and rebuild.

Here's a comparison between the old and new drive gear.

    And the pinion gear.

Inside view of the empty axle.

    New parts installed.

Completed rebuilt axle weighing 12 oz/343g.
