Today's progress! Decided solid steel was the way to go. I've put on about 4 more feet and it still feels light.

I'm asking around trying to see what's the best thing to do, but it's definitely gonna be monster green

As far as center of balance, it's pretty close to even front to back with the electronics in there. When I add the front on it will shift towards the front obviously. I'm trying to keep it as light as possible but I might have to add more metal to the back. Or I could just add weights in the spare tires... Something to think about I guess.

This is what I plan to add to the front. Adding the push bar to the very front after.

Here's the metal I plan to add to the chassis tomorrow. Should be it as far as adding tubing.

Running 145mm hpi e-savage shocks in the rear. Ended up giving me about 3 & 1/4 in. of travel

Thanks Jezza. I don't actually race mine, but it would go under 2wd sct if I did! I've heard of a guy that does race his but I'm not sure how well he does with it.

Final weight of the cage came exactly to my calculation of 2.5 lbs. If this thing was hollow it wouldn't be as cool. The truck would have been too light and wouldn't have that planted/heavy feeling that it does now. Next step will be to weld on the 4mm tabs to attach all the panels.

Yeah man once you get all the parts it goes by real quick. Especially if you have it all planned out, you'll be done in no time.

Thanks! Going to use a Proline silverado 1500 as my test body. Then at some point I'm making my own custom fiber glass body to fit the cage! Just need to grab some pactra to paint up the silverado.

As I promised, here’s the truck driving! Wasn't the best spot to go because of the rocks, but we made do. I much prefer diving this thing on dirt, but we’re still looking for a good place. Anyways, hope you enjoy the edit. They will be more updates and running vids as progress continues!

Fantastic thread, build and videos! Just an amazing truck. And, you did all metal cuts with an angle grinder? Wow, impressive.

I've been through the entire thread, but there's so much information that I probably missed this, but why did you change to a Slash 4x4 front bulkhead from the prior Rustler bulkhead you were using?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Thanks Steve for the compliment! And yes I did every single cut with an angle grinder Kinda crazy, but it's all we got haha. I love to hear that people spend the time to read the whole thread! Most don't and ask questions that have been repeated several times. Couldn't blame them though, 1100+ posts is a ALOT lol. Not sure I made it clear, but these are the main reasons I switched to the 4x4 front.

    1. It has much less kick up. (bulkhead was flatter)
    2. Let me use a front end that I'm more familiar with (I used to race a Slash 4x4)
    3. I just liked the whole setup more. The a-arm size, better steering assembly and the vertical shock tower.

The rustle front had this minor bump steer problem that I was getting tired of. Also it had that huge servo mount which took away a lot of chassis space.

Thanks Ziodos. This is a perfect example of trial and error until you get the final product you want! Still can't believe it has so many replies. When I first started I figured it would only be a couple pages lol

Got the panels on!! I changed my mind about welding on the square nuts. It would have been a pain, so I decided to go with good old zip ties!!
