Need help asap!!!! Trying to remove tires

I am trying to boil my traxxas stock wheels so I can use the rims for my paddles. But the tire won't come. Off the rim and I have boiled it for like 20 minutes!!!! My parents won't let me use acetone or bake them because of the smell. How can I get the tires off the rims!!????

I feel your pain! I tried that once, & ended up with blistered fingers! It's best to buy new wheels. Besides, boiling just softened the plastic. I didn't want to use them again anyway.

I've had good success 20 to 30 min in a oven. No problems removing a stock talon that way. Good luck.

Baking the tires is much, much, much safer than boiling.

It will also do less damage to the foams.

Yep, ive baked off several tires, i usually open the back door which is in the kitchen and the garage door to create a cross wind. The smell isnt that bad at all, toss some salt in the bottom of the oven to help.

The best way to remove tires is the aceton method... maybe you find a way to do it outside... but you have to be patient with this method. And dont forget to remove the inserts!

Yeah I wanted to do the backing method, but my mom didn't want me to stink up the house. What if I used the BBQ grill outside? Would that work?

If i bake my tires, how long and at what temperature should I bake them?

350 degrees for 15 min. If you are going to use the grill , make sure to put aluminum foil on top of the grill then put your wheels in a pan, bake them for 15 min. Pull them out and use mitts while they are still warm the tire should come off.

Maybe I'll try that today with my other 2 wheels. Can I just wrap a pan in foil and stick it on the grill instead of having to put foil on the grill?

Yeah that would probably work too. The bottom of the pan is going to get hot, not like in the oven where both top and bottom get hot. Just keep an eye on them. Don't want to melt your wheels lol. I have used the oven before its stinks the house up, but baking them works great IMO, good luck and keep us posted on how it came out. Good luck and god bless.

I used the acetone method too to keep the aka wheels I had. worked out good, tires just fell off.

These tires are glued on way tight. Good job traxxas! Guess its nice for keeping them on.

Should I bake each side for 15 minutes or 8 minutes on one side and 8 on the other?

I had problems boiling them off but there is a trick.

1) Put them in the pot of water with the lid on for about 15-20 mins.
2) Use tongs to get them out.
3) The side that is in the water is face up and you pop that side using the tongs. (to pop them, put the edge of the tongs on the edge nearest the rim and push down, and they pop in, then work around the edge.)
4) Then put them back in the water on the opposite side to what you just did, and then repeat.

Hope that helps. It was easy after that.
