1/16 platform stretched to a 1/10

Ok so I was board last night and was thinking about ideas for a project and was looking through my parts drawers for inspiration and seen a broken chassis and a spare whole one. I decided to try and mount them together and when I did that I sat down and looked across the room at my 1/10 summit. I grabbed the body and the wheel base is almost right. got to shorten the chassis a bit but Its close. Then I grabbed my merv with 2.2 mudslingers and compared the summit to the mervs wheel stance. Just right! Then I got thinking, extended chassis, with two 380 motors, one for the front tires and one for the back. Ill get two traxxas 4 channel 2.4 ghz receivers the extra channels for say lights and maybe to switch the front motor off(I have ideas already ) and go 2wd on command. Its all in the works, ive started ordering parts I think this could be sweet!! Im gonna gear down super low and Im looking at truck body's with similar wheel base to the summit, I even thinking about rear steering idk yet. I'd love to try another inch of wheelbase but........
You'd need a cage over the whole thing to act as a truss so it does not fold in half

This is a crazy concept BUT it can be done. My friend made a stretched rustler by combining 2 chassis' and it works good, all he does is drag race and speed runs.

Seems like a lot of money spent and for not much more then buying a 10th scale truck.

It will be cool if you get it finished and it works out alright. You will definatly have the one of a kind going for you.

It is and you are right but I really like the idea of a motor for the front and rear and being able to go from 2wd to 4wd on the fly, I want to make more trail vids and it will give it a real sense of realism, and its nice to have a project and in the end if it does not work I can just make it a regular merv and have spare parts as for the money well that's not a huge problem and I have not yet heard of this being done yet and I wanna be the first

Update. Got my body in its a pro line 1972 chevy c10 longbed body. Im thinking I may have to go with slash arms, rods, etc cause the body is not quite wide enough. I was also thinking on my way to work of a problem. If I go with the 2wd and 4wd on the fly way I would be using up batteries at different paces and that would not be good I quickly drew up plans (in my head) for a 4 way parallel connector. Should be really easy to make seeing as I am an electrician lol

ok so I have ruffed in the chassis. just two braces and its SUPER strong!! I kind of rushed them cause I had to do it on my break at work so they are not the straightest cut but what ever.

That doesn't look very sturdy at all. I would expect it to brake on the fist impact or possibly wheelie. It needs a lot more then two screws per end of the thin metal.

Not sure how far the heads protrude into the battery trays but where do you plan to put the batteries?

the plates are threaded and the screw heads are thin. I am using rhino 1750 mah 2 cell lipos which are thinner than the traxxas lipos so they fit fine. And like i said it is just a rough in I still plan on adding to it. It is also not going to be hitting high speeds and will not be a basher. I was trying to bend or break it by hand and could not. thanks for the input though, any and all ideas are welcome

Ok here is an update. FIRST is I think it is going to be more of a 1/14-1/12 scale truck. Its slow moving do to I work 6 days a week 13 hours a day but parts are coming in To custemaxx1 I still have more braces I want to add in and its alot stronger than it looks anyway here are some pics. I have made the rear diff locked with a gasket adhesive.

Never really needed to be pushed in the first place, how about some suggestions on how to make it stronger instead of telling me its gonna fail again and again....

well got her in a working condition, this baby has torque!! 55t spur 16t pinion and a flipped tranny. Picked up some rc4wd rock creepers for 25$ slightly used!! Lots of pieces are temp cause Im waiting on upgraded parts but I got to say so far I am super impressed!! cant wait to finish it

you NEED to add some vertical bracing to go with the horizontal bracing. All this work, and it is just going to bend right in the middle within a couple runs. If not on the first run. Id add some bracing to the drive shaft tunnel.

So another update. I've run about 6 sets off packs on her and I'm so very impressed with it at this stage. Chassis is holding up great!! I still need to fab up some more braces but I did install my integy slash roll cage and Its provided lots of structural integrity as well and it fits nicely under the chevy body. although seeing it gives me lots of new ideas hes a few pics I was board thought I would share

The only thing so far I'm having problems with is with having this much torque I'm twisting out drivshafts like mad so I ordered some GPM steel driveshafts

well for now ive been running 2 2s 5000 mah one to each esc cause im waiting on batteries that fit in the compartments it will be 4 2s batteries run in parallel all connected to both esc's

I like the cage for added stiffness but I would add some vertical stifeners to the chassis connectors. Get some angle aluminum and add one on each side.

Once it brakes you will have a lot more pain in the butt fixing it.
