The stock ESC is capable of 11.1 (3S), but I think the motor would get very hot on the 19 pinion. I wonder if it would be better to just stick with the stock 13?

Mine runs awesome on 2S, with the motor barely getting warm. Love it.

According to the Traxxas spec sheet below (middle of the page), you should be fine running the stock pinion on 3S. I wouldn't change a thing, unless you want to go 60+ MPH and heat up your motor.

I have ran mine with a 5200 3s since i took it out of the box. I have only ran it with the stock 13t gear and the motor does get hot. I diffidently wouldn't run more then 1 without letting it cool off though.

    ^^^ Im with him.
I have been running mine on the X01 batteries since day one. the FAST!!! and FUN!!! but the motor does get a little hot after one battery. let her cool down. I did install a heat sink recently.

but to answer your question, yup, DO IT! you will never run a 2S again. (unless you hit the track, a 3S is just way too **** much power for a track... at least for me it is)

..... and a little more info, I run the stock 13 tooth gear, the 19 was fun to make high speed passes, but its a little much. id rather the motor last longer. at ine time I did install a 15 tooth just to meed in the middle. but now im back down to a 13..... tire roasting 13. ;-)

I'm having intermittent issues on 3s. The problem is once in a while I put a fully charged 3s lipos in I will run it for about 2 mins and it goes into stage 1 thermal protection. Its knocked down to 50% power so I shut it off unplug the lipo (cool to the touch) check the motor temp (maybe luke warm) plug in the lipo turn it on and no problems. I run to low votlage and its its fine. My 4x slash didn't do this, did I get a bad esc in my rally??
