I have done it two ways, Acetone and EasyOff. And by far EasyOff is the best, hands down.
Clean your wheels up the best you can. Get an old cardboard box and a can of EasyOff (Yellow Can). Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area........spray them down with a good even coat and walk away. Come back the next day and rinse them off. You may have to re-apply to a few areas and after letting it sit again take a tooth pick or old toothbrush and pop those spots off.
SUMMIT, SUMVO, ERBE, EMAXX & REVO 3.3
Yup Easy off is the way to go. I just got done doing it and the results are amazing. Love the stock wheels and tires together when the wheels are black.
I had to reapply the easy off 4 times. And let the wheels sit with the easy off on about 6 to 8 hours each time. After I let it sit before I rinsed it off I also scrubbed the wheel with and old tooth brush. Then rinsed in warm water. Then checked to see if the results were what I wanted. Like i said I had to reapply with 4 total costs over the span of a day and a half. But the the results were so worth it. And best of all you get to keep the tires on as the easy off doesn't exfllffect the glue or the rubber of the tires.
Good luck it's well worth the effort.
I always boil mine in water it turnes them white, then I use easy off
Can you get this in australia?
I don't think you can?
Oh well there is always ebay.

If the summit can go through; its not deep enough
Can this be done with the tires still attached?
And what is Easy Offs main purpose? Maybe here in Australia we can buy a similar thing?
alright, shame you cant get it in aus, that would be heaps better

Yes it can be done with the tires still attached.
Check this thread. http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...ghlight=chrome
Easy offs main purpose, according to google, is it is a heavy duter oven cleaner so in simple terms a strong, potent grease remover.
If the summit can go through; its not deep enough
It is an oven cleaner. In Argentina is sold as Zebra oven cleaner.

That's right.
May be you can try with other oven cleaner. I think that the basic active principle is the sodium hydroxide from this cleaners.

There is this BBQ cleaner http://www.selleys.com.au/home-cleaning/bbq/tough-clean..
Don't know how potent it would be on on plastic. I Might experiment with it and see what it does.

Off to Bunnings or Woolies we go.. :P
Experimented with the BBQ cleaner on the rim to see if it would de chrome. to my astonishment it worked but only after about 3weeks of re-applying about every 2nd day, which is a bit dumb but atleast it works. then i rubbed down with a tooth brush and this is as far as it has got.
If i do all 4 tyres at the same time it will be quicker. But will need BBQ cleaner soon.
Here is the BBQ cleaner i was using. Joel and Phsyco should no what i am talking about
And just as an end note i tested it on the tyre as well but it didn't seem to harm it.

i wana do it!! sounds like a lot of work and i live in a appartment so.... maybe not the wife will go bananas!
I think this may be better than the BBQ cleaner...I'm not sure, could be wrong but this cleans the oven real well.

I'm a Rock n Rolla !
yes i think it would be more effecient.
I think i will go and grab some tomorrow, and experiment.
will let you guys know how it goes

warm environment should acelerate the process... may be this can help if your oven cleaner is not so efficient. btw, it looks you are close to no chrome at all.

Doing some test today, I've found that if you first put acetone over the chromed surface and inmmediately spray the oven cleaner, chrome goes in less than 2 minutes!

Acetone + easy off works great. My first de chomed rim:

Now thats fast.
And really black as well. Got the whole lot off.
Will try it out.
Not gonna do them till i have rebuilt my truck coz i have no way of spinning the water out ofter cleaning them.
Thanks for the tips
As for the easy off oven cleaner that u can just buy here at woolworths, it is good. Better (as it says on the can) in a warm environment and even better with acetone.
If the summit can go through; its not deep enough
I've just de chromed all the rims. Another tip is that in the rim edge, if there is a bit of tire glue, then it won't dechrome... so if you remove this glue, your rims will be 100% black.

Careful using acetone it can melt the plastic.
de croming my rims now. Two weeks old(broke the first week) and cound not do the chrome anymore. So I apllyed easy off about a hour and a half ago to dry clean rims with tires still glued on. Misted it a few times sence. Just washed them off and three rimms 99% black with a milky gummy stuffon top that washes right off.one rim has chrome all the way around it,about a 1/8" in from the outer edge/ tire. I did have to reglue one tire back on so that must be it. Re apllyed and will wait a hour or so before bed and wash them off again. Did it in my sink and them room set up at 72f so maybe that helped. The stock geodes look realy good when you can see past that shiny ( insert bad word). Its the only thing traxxas did wroung with it.
wow wish i had of read this a few days ago. i de chromed my geodes yesturday. i'm also from australia and couldn't be bothered looking for easy off. i used acetone, it worked fine, took a 3-4 hours of soaking before it started to come off easy. the brushing became boring quite fast.
Easy off is def the best easiest way to go. I let it sit for 45mins and then took a toothbrush with warm water and scrubed them. Did a second coat with the same process. Turned out nicely i think.

Nice job. Looks good.
Patience is a virtue. I wanted to see how well it worked (was testing on my old wheel) so i left it like for 15mins then cleaned it. it took at least 3 lots of 15mins to get it off which is 45 mins.
When i do it properly i am going to leave it for 45mins but re-apply the easy off every 15mins or so. This way i will only have to celan it once (hopefully).
