    Wink Mamba Monster 2

    Hi everyone,

Have any of you seen this yet? http://www.castlecreations.com/produ..._monster2.html

Looks pretty awesome and am going to get one for my ERBE. Can't wait to try it with 2 3s lipos and paddle tires in the snow.

Was thinking of getting it from here: http://thebarnfloor.com/catalog/prod...6#.UQnzoR1EErV

Does anyone have experience with this online hobbystore?

    Thanks.

Yeah I've seen it. They announced them quite a while back now. I just got a new replacement MMM from Castle, I think I'm going to sell it and get the MMM2 for my ERBE. Living near Seattle the waterproofing is a great feature.

I got my MM2 and motor combo off ebay because I had waited for it to come into stock at a major supplier, nut it never did.

A quick search on ebay gets you this for the ESC:

Can you post some good pictures of the casing?

I got my revo a few weeks ago, just a week after the release of the MMM2. But of coarse still with the older MMM1.
Today my dad ran the Revo through a deep puddle after he forgot to put the outerwears shroud on.. The revo seemed to be not responding after driving through so I immediately removed the batteries. At home I pulled apart the housing to discover quite a few drips of water in the lower side of the housing. But to my surprise the MMM1 PCB was fully coated, the way we coat our PCBs for waterproofing at our work. So it seems the latest batch of MMM1 controllers already have the same PCB as the MMM2 controller . The only thing i worry about is the casing, as water that came in, cannot go out.

I'm guessing yours was already waterproofed too.. Too bad you cannot check it anymore as it's already sold

i haven't taken it out of the box yet as i'm still building the revo. i still have cvds, the alum bulks, rpm true track and tires and wheels to buy before it's complete.i probably won't have it done before spring.

Brushless motors doesn't need to be waterproofed. You won't find any that says it is.

Yeah the motors are fine, you just need to clean and lube them.

if you run that mamba monster motor in the wet and it fails, castle creations WILL not honor their warranty if you still have one on your motor, just saying.

Just curious davyjones'_fleet, how do you know that?

They say right on the product page that castle motors are waterproof. If you perform the required maintenance after running in wet conditions the motor is not going to fail because of the water. They even tell you to wash it with clean water. I'm sure if you didn't perform maintenance and let it corrode they wouldn't honor the warranty, but if you do the maintenance you wouldn't even be able to tell it'd been wet.

they wont fail, simple as that, if you open a velineon motor which traxxas says is waterproof you won't find anything different than any other motor, there is no insulation of any kind. I have run my motors through water, and still running strong, just lube the bearings, don't overheat them, and they will last.

The original MMM has always had that coating, and according to castle it was water resistant,. The fan was not water resistant though, and unlike the new MM2 it had to be opened up to remove the fan.

Aah, that explains. So how well does the coating protect against water? Enough to protect against a few drips of water that occasionally slip through the outerwears?

I'm wondering, how do they make it fully waterproof in the MMM2 then?

I'm really not sure. They never actively advertised it as being water resistant, but their special projects page listed it. I'm curios to get my MM2 and see what the difference is.

Hmm maybe just get the mamba monster 2 esc for my mamba monster motor. Maybe finally bash in puddles with my old esc until that one runs dead.

I can get just the esc right? since i already have the brushless motor

I got my MM2 from thebarnfloor today. I was a little nervous having never bought from them before but it went great. I'll get the connectors soldered up tomorrow and try it out. I did test fit the ERBE mount on it, I was worried it wouldn't fit the new ESC right but they molded the MM2's case specifically to fit the mount.

Did you mount it down to the chassis? I had to space it up, the hold down would not hold the ESC tight to the chassis..

Yeah I'm running into that problem right now. I'm debating on building it up or cutting the legs of the mount shorter.

I'm sure the ERBE and EMBE are going to start coming with the MM2, I wonder if Traxxas will make a new shorter mount.

I cut a bit off of the legs on the mount with my dremel. That worked perfect, it's nice and tight now. I just bench tested it and everything works great. Time to charge up my LiPos and take it for a spin.

I thought about doing that ^ but didn't want the screws to go any deeper in the batt compartment.
But guess could cut down the screws too.........

    It's a nice little ESC...............Aaaaaa...
I really like the fan assembly. Easy fix when the fan quits.....& I like that is runs all the time.
