Recently made the "decision" to stop in to my lhs / track w/ my 8 yo son. Naturally, a couple of hours (and a few new friends) later, he now considers himself a certified corner marshal, looking to take the next step. I personally cut my teeth with the original RC10 (remember the mechanical wiper speed controls?), did the RC12 carpet thing for a bit in HS, and currently have an Inferno MP6 that's been collecting dust for several years. Personally never been much on RTRs, or buying locally for that matter, but everyone at this shop I've spoken to has been nothing but helpful, especially considering they haven't gotten a dime from me (yet). Almost finishing my sentence when I asked, the salesperson I talked to that night said 2wd Slash and a Hitec X1 will get him running with the youngin's, with plenty of room to upgrade. I realize where I am, and don't expect anyone to disagree (except possibly charger preference). My question for the masses are: What else should I be looking at for a good initial track (practice) day for him? Extra batteries of course (Traxxas? or?) How many packs? What capacity? (No clue about cycling time etc, last time I played with batteries it was 1200 v 1700, with the new 1300 "sport packs" causing debate). Right now just looking for the best bang for the buck, and any potential pitfalls to avoid. Thanks in advance to anyone patient enough to read this all, and doubly so for any tips.
