VXL LED Turning Red after full throttle

Hey Guys

I have a Slash 4x4 i bought used and it has stock VXL Brushless set up

Using a 3S 4000 pack 20C and after a few stop and go runs then full throttle it seems to go into safe mode

The LED Goes from Green then Stays Red

Then the initial full throttle punch is no longer there

I have to unplug and replug the battery to reset the ESC

Button is NOT Stuck

Any ideas how to fix it so it stays green?

I have 3 new batteries and it does it on all 3 batteries

Are you operating with the LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) DISABLED? If so...that's bad.

Also, you may need to calibrate the ESC. Here's the link if you haven't been there yet:

Your batteries probably aren't supplying the amps needed to sustain the voltage, if you are running an 3s 4000mah 20c battery you are only supplying the esc with 80amps, that's probably why you are going into safe mode so fast. JMO, but I think you need some better batteries, the traxxas LVC's are known to have a high cutoff value, and if your batteries don't give enough amps to the system it's going to trip the LVC. So you think it's his C-rating that's too low, snook (I run 25C in my Slash 4x4 and have never had a problem).

C rating alone does not determine amperage availability.
A 15C battery can provide more amperage than a 50C battery... capacity is the other part of that equation.

If the batteries are cold C rating lowers quite a bit... so if the system is demanding more than the batteries are capable of providing, voltage is going to dip low enough to trigger LVC.

I totally understand jimmy, I was just showing him how many amps his battery would have, 80amps right? Do you think this enough amperage for the system? I am asking. Was just trying to help troubleshoot his problem. What do you think it could be??

mAh x C / 1000 = amp
4000 x 20 / 1000 = 80

Your math is correct.... and I agree that 80 amps is borderline for the 3500 system. But, if it is warm out and if the RC it is in is 2WD; it might be enough. Some guys with the 3500 system are having issues in their 16th scale RC's with the batteries providing enough amps when running two 44 amp batteries in parallel... I imagine it is worse with a larger RC, 2WD or not.
