    Gearing issues!!!

My friend has a 1/16 summit and I have the merv. We are switching over to an off road rally or buggy style truck. The issue is now gearing. Before on bigger tires and lower gearing we could hit speeds up to 50 plus on 2s. now we have smaller buggy wheels and tires and have a 45 spur and a 34 pinion! the motor and esc are nowhere near getting hot and we are still only running 37 mph according to GPS. Any suggestions on what's goin on?

Tires play a big part in gearing. The smaller tire takes a lot more rotations to go the same distance of the bigger tire. This is why there is such a drop in speed.
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

I know, that's why we put the biggest pinion that will fit on the motor! That can't be all she will do! It says that the stock rally will do 50+ on two nimh. So with the gearing so high we should at least get close to that on a 2s. Right?

Have you played around with a speed calc?

    Here is a speed calculator.

I wonder if you are hitting the rev limiter... or if something else is going on.

the speed calculator is not really real world speeds .also punch in 7.4 for 2s ans 11.1 for 3s not 8.4 and 12.6 for voltage drop
