    Helping a friend

So, my friend wants an RC car. I recommended a Traxxas, because it's the best for a newb. But since we are 13 and don't actually have jobs, he doesn't have $1000 to spare and get an ERBE. I'm suggesting a mini slash 4x4 VXL. Here are his qualifications:

    1/16 scale
    brushless
    top speed over 35 mph
    under $300
the ability to have a chance when racing my MERV VXL

If you guys can recommend any cars it would be of great help.

Merv from thebarnfloor.com is only 274 i think. Could even get a 2s lipo with it and share your charger till he can buy his own

Just remember the brushed MERV comes with an AM radio, while the BL MERV comes standard with a 2.4 GHz radio. I think for the extra $100 or so makes the BL MERV the better value.

Or, just look on craigslist or eBay. You can find super hopped up mervs as well as some hopped up 1/10 scales for some great deals!

While i see the point with the am vs 2.4 ghz but what about the esc on the bl i seen alot of threads about ppl having issues with the xl3m wouldnt it be easier or cheaper to just find one rolling chassis or just no motor or esc with the 2.4 already on it then build your power plant?

    I agree with this.
This is where I started and as of yesterday; it's converted to brushless.

Better to find a cheap roller and upgrade to a better esc along the way
