    3800 or 2400 motor?

I usually only bash and i maybe want to try racing and i was wondering if i should get the 2400 castle creations motor combo or the 3800 motor combo. If i did get the 2400 i wouldnt want to go to 4s because that would cost a lot more with breaking parts issues. So is the 3800 good with 3s and maybe some 2s lipo, if so what gearing should i use? I bash around in grass sand and dirt. Also what temperatures would be high and bad for it? Does the motor get hot usually?
    Thanks,

If i bought what is shown in the link will i just get the motor? or will it have the esc too?

3800 in a 4x4 on 3s wont work, you will cook it even geared low. Other thing is you cant race most places with a 3s, 2s only.

The 2400 is a more viable option and you can gear it up a bit and run 2s-4s.

3800 was designed for the 2wd SCT, the 4x4 even on 2s is pushing it to its limits. If you look on the castle site at the gearing chart for use in a 4x4 it says maximum gearing of 15/54 with asteriks all over it saying 2s only in the 4x4.

The link shows the motor only, no esc.

with that link you only get the motor

the 2400, i had in my slash was awesome, i was geared 25/50 and 19/50 on 2s, 3s and 4s. So i think the 2400 is a great option, it sure was for me.

I am also going to vote for the 2400 system. I have it in both of my trucks and love them both♡ Great little motor, runs cool, great torque and plenty of power without the overheating problems.

The 3800 is great for 2s only. So they are great for the track. It's very comparable to the stock system.

The 2400 is good on 2s with 22/50 about same as stock. On 3s it's really fast about 50mp. I love my 2400kv

I have the 2400 on 4 of my vehicles and to me it's the best all around motor for 1/10 scale trucks

The 3800 might be comparable to the stock system but it is not even close to being in the same league.
I feel the 3800 is far superior and the difference between the are very, very noticeable.

Eventually down the road, the slash will be getting beat up. Aluminum slipper pads, and some read MIP driveshafts. Do you have the ultimate or stock? What size lipo will you be running?

    I run 3s lipo.
    I have the stock slash.
Will I need a fan for the 2400 system?

i always run a fan with all my motors. i figure it wont hurt and its cheap insurance for only $10. there have been people that have done real world test on motor temps with and without cooling fans and they help a little

i think the 2400kv motor is waterproof but the esc does not like water one bit! they do make a waterproof esc for the mmp2400kv though. I believe its the mm2 from castle.

I run both 3800 and 2400. The 3800 is paired with the sv2. I have run 3s with the 3800, but the outside temps were below 60. I enjoy both motors and I'm sure you would be happy with either one.

I have a castle 3800, and a losi-branded castle 2800. I prefer the 2800. The 2400 would be similar, if not better. I have the punch on my MMP set to 25%, practice good throttle control, and haven't broke a driveshaft yet.

The 3800 is great for that truck too. Every time I put it in though, I find myself wanting the 2800 again pretty quickly. Guess I'm just used to it now.
