Go get a slash 4x4. There great and you won't get bored with it. You can upgrade many parts on it so that can keep you busy. And if you want you can make it into a buggy or a monster truck or whatever you want if you get bored of a short course truck.

My vote is for brushless LiPo.
Longer run times, less mess, more power.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

Also vote for brushless lipo. The only liquid fuel based vehicle I ever plan to own is one that takes real gasoline. One day, when traxxas builds a 1/5... ill buy one. Until then, my fuel comes in lipo form.

    Just my experience here,
Nitro's are still popular in many ways for those who like combustion engines and working on them. Well maintained, they can be fairly easy to maintain and to run. It's nice to be able to go all day long without having to charge any batteries if you are setup right.

Electric's,,, boy have they come along way... NO tuning variables like weather, nitro %, air filter, exhaust, etc. There are less variables to deal with so you have a bit more somplicity in many ways.... BUT,,,, and I do mean BUT,,, when you get into electrics to a certain point it can become a science just like Nitro's and people are getting more up to date as well as technology making a lot of progress in batteries and motors...

So if you like combustion engines and that side of things (like me), go nitro, if you want not to have to worry about tuning, fuel and just have to be concerned about your electronics and batts. The electric choice is yours for the taking...

I love Nitro's, I like modding them, hearing that little engine rip. But that's just me and I try to be non partisan when it comes to these types of questions...

I must confess though, there will be an electric in my collection one day.... But I will always be a combustion engine nut....

i dip into both and they have their ups and downs. i think most of the people that bash nitro either never ran it or never had a good experience with it for whatever reason. my 2wd nitros are by no means maintenance pigs, i spend more time cleaning the clay off than i do on keeping them running. i throw it on the bump box and go.

that said 8th scale electric has no equal in the hobby imo, just gratuitous amounts of power and so easy to upkeep. my e-truggy is as close to plug and play as your gonna get for being a custom conversion.

I do love my nitros. ..one thing I love is the reaction you get with nitro! You can be going 100 MPH with an electric but then you have a little .15 stampede roll up in the park or in the street and everyone is looking at the nitro. yeah there more work but who has not spent countless hours working on there rig. Now I wonder ...a 3 cell lipo cost about 100 plus right? I'm not sure cuz I still have nimi on mine but for the same money you can get 3 maybe 4 gallons of fuel. Now my question is will you burn through the fuel faster than you wear out the battery or the other way around. I don't know much about lipo outside of the fire danger.

An SPC 3S lipo costs less than $50. In Canada, one gallon of fuel costs $50.

Im not going to lie. Ive had both good and bad experiences with nitro. Had an RS4 Pro3 with an OS motor in it and it ran perfect, day in and day out. No hassles. Charge the RX pack, fill with fuel, 2 pulls and your off. I also had an Ultra GTP2 with an Axial .28 that was perfect. Absolutely loved those trucks. Back in the day I had a savage with a .21 that ran excellent. Summer or winter, new fuel, old fuel, didnt matter. Ran great. But the last 5-6 nitros I had (all different brands and sizes) were terrible. They were all new, all broken in correctly, all from reputable companies, all run with new fuel. Its like my nitro mojo ran out or something. Someone came by and cranked up the nitro suck knob to 11 and that was it for me. I went from a Savage XL to a stampede and it re-invigorated my love for RC. The simple joy of pulling out your truck, any time, any place, and going for a rip.

An added bonus was my wifes attitude about RC. She HATED the smell and mess nitro's left. I love the smell personally, but she couldnt stand it. Once I went electric, her complaints centred only around how much money Im spending... not on the smell or noise.

My local hobby store must really be sticking it to me because there 3s lipos were all 100 plus. I'm not sure where I can get a new lipo for the price of a gallon of fuel. Fuel cost me about 30 bucks with tax. Heck even the 8 cell hump packs are like 45. I need a new hobby store. Lol

Never once heard of a jug of nitro exploding on the charger They both are great. I have each and love the ease of elec, but man that little motor burning nitro is pretty awesome too.

Lol that's true. I had a little 1s lipo for a heli of mine and almost set the house on fire. I'm glad I had it in a clay pot. Speaking of heli lipos I had one that didn't get charged for about 6 months and was almost new before I put it up and I had it in a pot also and that dang thing went up just sitting there. The ironic thing is at the time I had my nitro about 3 feet away...stupid on my part but at the time I didn't believe all the hype about lipo fires but on the side of cation I did what a pal told me to with the clay pot and god bless him for always being a know it all cuz he sure saved my butt. Lol

Six or 7 years ago I raced in 1 hour long Stadium Truck off-road races where Nitro and electric ran against each other heads-up. I ran those races with matched, 6-cell 4600mAh Nimh packs powering a 19 turn brushed motor and changed battery packs just two times to finish out the hour long races. How many pits stops will a nitro need for 1-hour plus run times and please do not forget to charge/change your receiver pack? With the advent of LiPo this whole issue has now become a moot point. Two 6000mAh LiPo packs will power a 4WD truck, such as the Slash, for well over an hour with the operator having to stop and change the packs only one time. This battery change will take maybe two minutes - Two minutes of down time for well over an hour of run time.
I can't see your comparison. My experience tells a different point of view..

I run a 45 minute A-main in state races, in that 45 minutes I have 5-6 splash and dashes (refueling).. That's about 30 seconds total time on pit row with a decent pit man... This is racing, I'm not holding back on the throttle it's full out boogie down the track or hammering the brakes and on the throttle getting around jumps so it's pulling full juice most of this period... I would consume a lot less fule in a bash session of equal time by far.
Now with Lipo's allowed in ROAR races for reciever packs I charge the night before and never touch it again... We start practicing around 2 and race till midnight... Pretty much a full day...

I was kind of afraid I would start a war but in my opinion I have to go with nitro... I think if Arthur Fonzarelli or AKA the fonz drove an RC car he would have a nitro lol hahaha. Why cuz there cool! Aeyyyyy. anyhow I do have to be honest as of 2-3 weeks ago I had not messed with an electric car for 15 years and this new brushless stuff and lipos and all that ...it's flat out amazing what we can do with an electric car now. I never would have dreamed an electric truck could out run its nitro counterpart ....flat amazed. I'm just glad I have both I win either way. Now I just have to figure out what the heck I'm buying next.lol maybe ill get a boat ....still have to figure out nitro or battery. It never ends lol

Since you already have some of both I would say go electric. All the manufactures are putting their r and d into electric these days. My first RC was a nitro and I still have it and love it, but I wouldn't buy another. It taught me so much about the hobby and made me really appreciate my electric trucks once I switched over. Have you considered a pump gas truck? That new one from hpi looks like it's going to be awesome!

A gallon last me awhile. I've been running 4 trucks off the same gallon I bought mid November but also depends on how much you run. To tell you the truth I'm not sure how to answer that. I guess take a gallon and divide it by the tank size times your run time. Or do what I do and just call it awhile.lol
