    23/86 gearing help?

    Hi guys,
I was wondering what happens if i do the optional 23/86 gearing for my slash 2wd.
I run it on the street for speed runs and i want it faster. I usu nimh batteries 5000 and 3000 mah.
Will the brushless motor over heat?

23/86 (10.2:1 final) is stock gearing for VXL. If you're running the 19T, you're undergeared. I've geared the Velineon 3500 up to 25/84 (9.1:1 final) with no ill effects. My daughter's Backslash runs 32P gears, 15/54 (9.8:1 final) all day every day. Never overheats.

No, for the slash 2wd the stock is 19/90 so iguess thats okay,
So what gearing should i use to go about 40 mph? I only use nimh for now though

I've run 35/76 for EXTENDED periods of time in my Big Oval Slash with two different brushless systems. No ill effects.

wrong............... stock gearing for a brushed slash is 19/90

stock gearing for a vxl brushless slash is 23/86

and i highly doubt you will ever hit 40 with a nimh battery. i run 23/76 gearing with a lipo and i only hit 37 still.

Wait really? I upgraded my brushed to brushless. So if it was new brushless 2wd,
The stock is 23/86? Will that get my motor hot?

no, it wont. thats why its the stock gearing. brushless can handle much more. best way is to monitor the temps but my 76/23 gearing runs about 155 degrees. i called traxxas and asked them what safe temps are and they said under 170degrees ferenheit. and these temps are with stock plastic gearbox no heat sink or anything. if you put a heatsink on, get a metal trans case or something to draw heat away you can gear it even further. i run mine in everything from water, mud, grass, pavement speed runs, sand. never had an issue. so the stock 86, 23 wont hurt a thing

Most nimh get warm. Not too hot, just warm. If the motor was cool, then it might work out.
