    Charging at lower amps

I dont feel like joining another forum so i am going to ask this here even though my charger isnt a traxxas one, but my batteries are.
My onyx charger recommends I charge my batteries (a 2s 5300 lipo and the Stock NiMH) at 5amps. Is it OK if I charge at a lower AMP, I know it's a slower charge time. With some stories I have heard about Lipos catching fire, something about a slower charge seems less risky? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am new to this hobby.

I've a Onyx 245 charger an I charge a SPC 3s 5000nah at 5 amps with no issues , Charging the stock nimh at lower amp will prolong the life of the battery , put you'll lose the punch coming out of the hole , I cycle my nimh battery every so often an charge them at 5 amps most of the time . Hope this helps
