QR-1 Challange Flip indoors? (under 10 feet)

I would like to know if anyone has developed a method for doing a flip that can be done indoors?

I am wondering if someone with far more skill then I had an approach of doing a flip using more power that would reduce the drop significantly the way the AR Drone can.

I am thinking it should be possible with enough skill...

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

It really is not that hard, I can do it in my bedroom. When I do it the QR-1 bounces off my bed but if the bed was not there it would not hit the floor. My son who is a far better pilot than I can do it without bouncing off the bed. According to my son it is all about gettting the timing right and adding throttle once the QR-1 starts to flip.

But the QR-1 hasn't been out long enough for a large library of videos to have been published.

These things are kinda hard to get on video they are so small and move so fast. Add in old camera and a small room it is hard to keep the thing in frame. I will try to get a video up but not promises.

Correction: in watching the video again, the quad loses an average of about 5½ to 6 feet of altitude during the flips.

i am sure a flip with significant less loss of altitude is possible. As BlindMan Racing said I am sure if power is applied at the right time the loss of altitude could be minimal.

I am thinking a in expert mode full left with a full right + full power on altitude at the same time would give you a flip with very little loss in height. I just live in a part of Canada where it is far to wet and cold outside to test this theory right now. I would test it indoors if I had spair blades (but I am on my last B blades now!)

Using left to right stick to do a barrel roll seems to take a lot more room than using forward to back stick to do a flip. The QR-1 does lose altitude when doing a flip but it can be done indoors in a normal size room. I have yet to be able to do a barrel roll indoors and with my skill set dont see that happening any time soon if at all.

Tip 1...Start over a soft surface like a bed..
Tip 2... as soon as it recovers back off on the power or you will hit the ceiling.

Thanks guys! As a Traxxas employee I can't tell you how excited I am that we have finally expanded into the r/c aviation market. I have been flying various types of airplanes for 29 years (built my first plane @ 16 years old) and helicopters for about a year or so. I get excited about anything that flies. When we first came out with the QR-1 I was flying about 12 to 18 battery packs a day!
