Just a quick question...

I haven't bought a spartan yet but i am looking at one...
I have started reading a few threads in here and noticed poeple talkin about spartans having over heating issues.
Would you have the overheating issue when running two 7cell nimh's or does it only start getting hot when you put 6s through it?

The NIMH 7cell included batteries are good for the ESC but lack of power and will burn out after a few Full Throttle. The esc start to heat up when you put 6S LIPO Batteries but depends on the set-up, if you have the stock plastic props. it will be fine.

Most guys who don't want to do any mods to their Spartan boats run 4s Lipo's. You have the best of both worlds running your Spartan with 4s Lipo's; good battery life, and no mods needed. If you run Nim's, the Spartan eats them up for breakfast. If you run 6s Lipo's, it's best to do the 2 port tail rudder/dual water cooling line mod. I run all stock electronics, a few water cooling mods, and run 6s. My Spartan runs very quick, cool, stable, and is a lot of fun.

OK thanks for that info... might see if i can find one with the lipos... or just buy some lipos seperately...
Just hard to get lipos cheap here in aussie so thats why i was staying with nimhs...

Ok so if i get the lipo one what do i get to keep everything cool.
A few have mentioned:
1. Aluminium water cooling jacket.
2. Dual pick up rudder.
Is there anymore? LMK what else you could do to keep it cool.

Also once you have listed what i need to keep it cool could you give me some insight on where to get this stuff from?
Is there any specific brand you all go for?

you need also to buy an extra water tube and outlet for the dual water pick-up

Yep will get those... and do you just drill a small hole in the other side of the boat for the other water outlet?

I put mine on the same side as the other one just easier to see when it goes by but that is up to you.

Oh yep thats an idea...
When you say easier to see do you mean you just keep checking them to make sure water is still coming out?
I would assume they could block up sometimes... is that right?

I put my water outlets; one on each side of my boat. For me, that way was easier to see both ports having water comming out of them. When I first put my boat in the water, I do two passer-by's, check my water oulets, and then go on my merry way.

When I take my boatout of the water to change batteries, and greese the shaft; I blow into each water output, and look for the water to shoot out of the rudder. I show pictures of my boat in the post "Stock Electronics Heating Problem Solved". It's down a little ways from your post.

Should you bother with it or do you just be careful and go slow when in reverse?

IMO it helps not only going reverse, on a full throttle from stop as well

Ok then i will add that to my list...
I have decided to save up and get a spartan along with a few hop ups...
-Traxxas Spartan w/Lipo's
-Dual pickup rudder
-Aluminium water cooling jacket
-Splash Guard
-4mm Bullet nut to fit stock prop
-Another water outlet
-Some more water cooling pipe

Anything i have missed?

Also just a quick question about mounting that splash guard. Did you use the supplied hardware or did you use double sided tape?

After you drill the splash guard, put an adhesive foam tape so that it would seal the holes.

Is there a seal or something that goes where the cooling pipe enters the hull or is it just a tight fit?

You mean about the other hole, which you will do for the additional waterline? I didn't put any on mine just make a tight hole exactly for the water hose then push it through.

Sorry... i meant the original line... but you have answered my question anyway...
All i was trying to find out was whether they seal it by using a SEAL or whether it is just sealed because it is a tight fit.
